Canada even in its crisis mode facing the prospect of a hostile America, with its whole Canada First, Elbows up rhetoric, is still -extremely- "americanized". Our ideas of Liberalism and Conservatism are very right wing compared to Europe, much like how the US republicans and democrats are both right wing compared to say, a German or French parliament.

it would take a very long time and a lot of pain and suffering in Canada to move away from the status quo. The NDP are the closest thing to a left wing party in this country and politically, they're on track to be absolutely eviscerated and effectively dismantled as a party in our election.

I "grew up" with people online since I was a teenager, I've visited Europe, I had close friends fromthe UK, Germany Poland and France, I've had relationships with people from Ukraine and a Portuguese born UK, I understand the European values and customs... the thing is, people like me are a minority even in Canada. Canadians have grown accustomed to a hybrid system thats kind of like Europe and Kind of like America, and they dont want to fully switch to one team or the other.

The problem is, that hybrid system is no longer tenable. and people are going to kick and scream for as long as possible before they realize they have to draw a line in the sand and choose a side.

anyone who makes that decision is, consciously in the moment, understanding their life is over.

even if your ban reason was false, if you make a new account, as far as they're concerned thats grounds for a non-appeal permanent ban.

I got permabanned after a week long ban for "threatening violence" when I suggested that if a Trump was elected (it was in Oct24) started directley Aiding Russia in their invasion of Europe, that they'd probably end up with a dead president. I appealed and suggested that I wasn't threatening anyone, and that whoever banned me, was politically biased and triggered. and they flipped out and perma'd me.

I was ahead of the curve, and got banned in October 2024 for Promoting violence when I said "If a president decided to betray America's allies, and start directley helping Russia in its wars of conquest, America would probably end up with a dead president"

They basically told me to fuck off on my appeal, I had told them A) I wasnt threatening anything, and B) moderation is getting politically triggered and biased. and they permabanned me.

and I have since been Hardware banned from my main PC and my work PC, I still want to go back for some of the niche communities that havent emigrated over here yet, but I really cant be bothered to go and fire up a 8 year old laptop or something just for fucking reddit. its a cesspit and getting banned is largely a blessing in disguise.

you probably need to use a new device and on a network you havent frequently used. Unique email addresses dont mean anything if you're logging in with the same browser with the same cookies and "digital footprint"

Reddit mods are fat slobs who can be easily duped, but Reddit algorithims will autoban you for making new accounts.

I'm basically exiled from it until I decide to get a new device and sign in on a new network other than my home or my work.

Nothing particularly major happened with mine, no sports team championship, no graduation, no first date, nothing like that, and my family was for the most part, well insulated from the financial crisis, we lived in a country that was less impacted anyway
