  • As a former teacher, I'd never consider something a student bought me as a romantic gift, that's just not a thing. Chocolates are nice, but echoing what someone else said, a nice card with a message is really special. I still have every thank you card my students ever gave me, and I once printed out an email a student sent me when they got their first job to keep. It just gives you fuzzy feelings to think you may have been helpful.

  • I love that they've done a study to prove what all zookeepers know. Chimps actually mock each other, like if one chimp has a bad foot and does a limp other chimps will do the limp to take the piss. All the youngsters will pick on older ones that they know can't or won't chase them down.

  • I flew to Inveness and stayed in a place called Beauly then just drove around really. I drove around Loch Ness stopping at all these little castles, then took a boat trip. I went whale watching fom Gairloch, that also took use to see seabirds in the Shiant Islands and some white tailed eagles, then over to the Cairngorns.

I knew the places we went would be cool obviously, but every drive was amazing, brilliant landscapes everywhere. I had lunch in these cool little pubs on mountainsides, stopped in cute little villages, I was leaving like 2 hours to get anywhere so we could stop multiple times just to get pictures and stare.

  • On top of other reasons you've had, I was listening to the radio yesterday and apparently there's Christian groups giving free help to asylum seekers if they convert. Free legal help probably being the most useful.

They need the help obviously but it feels quite predatory to put conditions on it.

  • It was so normal there to leave kids in the apartment and go eat in the hotel restaurant. You could even hire a staff member called a 'child listener' who would visit your room every so often and call you if they were crying. The group were actually being more cautious than most by checking on each kid themselves.

We can say in retrospect that it wasn't safe but it was the done thing then.

  • You've got mixed up there. If you plan to learn multiple languages then it is beneficial to learn as a child but even similar languages, like English and French, can cause issues communicating when young. When learning vastly different languages especially when one is written and one signed it causes a lot of issues. This can leave a deaf child struggling to communicate for a time.

Often deaf parents will choose to stick to sign first.

  • There was a ruling put in place when Harry and William were young to prevent the press from being able to report their normal day to day lives, like going to playdates, or playing at the beach.

I assume this guy is livid at that!

  • I often send people pictures or articles on whatsapp while I'm talking to them, it's just easier than going over to show them my phone. I definitely text if someone is out of speaking distance if it's not urgent, stuff like "do you want X for dinner?", that way they can get to it when it's convenient.

  • I quite like cryptozoology, looking for proof of animals that don't officially exist. Loads of the animals over the decades have been found and proven and then they just go over to zoology and people still think of cryptozoology as a pseudoscience, it's really weird.
