  • Not exactly, she went to live in the islamic state after being told it was a safe place for muslims, when she was facing discrimination and abuse in the UK. Her friend told her that everyone there was happy and that the rumours were all lies. Those messages have been released as part of her case.

  • I'm going to say something different from most, this guy might be genuine, he might just be some kid thats a bit lost. He might be a scammer but we haven't heard proof of that yet.

HOWEVER, you can not move a stranger, however lovely, in with your teenage son. That's just not a thing. If he wants to come live with you, AND he can get there by himself, then why can't he live on the sofa? You also mention your siblings being supportive, why can't he share with them? Are they younger than you?

Could he even move there legally? Would there be immigration issues if he tried?

See if you can read the messages yourself between the two of them, try to work out who's suggesting these things. Is he talking about lack of money a lot? Is he constantly having 'situations' that your mom needs to fix?

  • Despite being the root cause of a few stereotypes of black people, it is notable that the black people in the novel actually have character development throughout that breaks at least some of those stereotypes.

We actually had some great discussions about this, about the changing nature of acceptability, it's made me much happier to adjust my vocabulary over the years and to consider the way I speak.

I said it didn't really impact me but actually, looks like it actually did a bit!

  • I like how at first the darker collie and the little dog were really nervous but you just kept calm and repeated your movements in a really predictable way to settle them. You can see the realisation dawning on the collies face when he realises what's happening and is like "Ah yes, I understand".

    Great trust building.

  • I think its quite easy if you're involved in an industry, as long as you're on some facebook pages or forums then you're kept up to date almost accidentally.

What jobs are trying to rule out are those guys who took a course in something then just keep doing the same thing forever more.

  • A side note is providing protection. I drove a larger vehicle. I recently witnessed a motorway accident (driver fell asleep at the wheel). A depressing number of drivers were dangerous idiots. Several cars drove between stopped vehicles to get past. Some got very close to running over rescuers. I ended up using my van to block off the immediate area, and force traffic well clear.

That's a brilliant point. My car once broke down on the motorway, I managed to limp it along at 25mph until I got to a place to turn off, and then it went on fire at the turn off which is a whole other problem.

But while I was limping along a big articulated lorry came behind me, held my speed, and put their hazards on to protect me, it was so good of them and kept me safe. I wish I could thank that guy/girl.

  • You're not alone at all. She fucked up, but she was groomed. She was 19 years old at the end of the islamic state, and she's only 24 now.

If the British government have evidence she committed crimes then cool, bring her back and put her on trial. If not then they have no case.

You can't make someone stateless for being a twat when they were 15.

  • It definitely doesn't. Animal from the deep sea are used to being under higher pressure, that's an entirely different issue and not what I'm talking about.

Fish of any level will be supported in the water in a way that they won't in air so they haven't developed the structure of land animals to keep their organs from crushing each other.

Then there's a whole host of other issues that occur - https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Physiological-responses-occurring-when-fish-are-removed-from-water-Effects-of-airfig1281930182#::text=exposure%20can%20be%20considered%20acute,(Ferguson%20and%20Tufts%201992).

Even when only removed from the water for a short time a proportion of the fish die after being put back. When the time is increased to do measurements, take photos, whatever else you want to do, the proportion that die shortly after increases quite quickly.

  • The Octopuses solving puzzles is actually overblown a bit. I used to work in an aquarium and had to teach an octopus to open a jar to get its food out. They can do this, but they're not that smart so you need to break it into tiny steps. Even 'your food is inside the jar' was a difficult lesson.

  • When I was a teenager and I lived at the beach I gave up shoes for a whole summer, it was nice and my feet hardened fine, but in the city with all the people who don't watch their step and all the shit, both actual and figurative, on the floor, it's dangerous.

  • I read "The Colour Purple" at around 14 and it had a big impact on me. Lots of opportunities to discuss race, slavery, inequality in general.

I also read Uncle Toms Cabin around the same age which I found much harder to connect with but others in my class found that very impactful.

  • All the little niche TV subs, there's a Doctor Who one here, which is soooo much nicer than the reddit one, but I haven't found any of my other shows. I'd quite like the trashy TV ones cause I joined facebook groups and I want to talk about like, internalised misogyny in Sister Wives, but all the discussions are like "Robyn has a fat bum, hahaha".
