  • A foreign megacorp using their money to try to influence Canadian politics.
Bill s-210 is a privacy nightmare, basically requiring you to give your government-issued photo ID to tech companies.

    • everything NSFW you have ever looked up is connected to your real life identity.
    • Mega corps often bend to government requests for data
    • certain things, like being LGBTQ+, get you jailed or killed in some countries
  • shows that aren’t stupid gimmicks.

I don't own a tv, but what are the gimmick-based shows? Schitt's Creek, Baroness von Sketch Show, and Kim's Convenience are recent(ish) CBC shows that did very well.

  • I think the main point of federation is being able to see something from Lemmy.zip with an account on Lemmy.ca. So if one service goes down, or a there is a difference of opinion on what the rules should be, the whole platform of "Lemmy" doesn't go up in flames.

This prevents one person or group from controlling everything.

  • The grumpy answer: Don't mix and match across platforms.

They are very different platforms that serve very different purposes, and they have very different layouts. Viewing things from different instances using the same service works quite well, but even when cross-platform things work, it's not a great experience.

If you want to see stuff on Mastodon server, use a Mastodon account. If you want to see something on Pixelfed, use a pixelfed account, if you want to see stuff on Lemmy, use a Lemmy account.

  • In English, it has to be any of the Contronyms. We have so many, and it really makes it hard for newer speakers to understand some things.

You dust a cake by adding powder, you dust a table by removing powder.
You seed a field by adding seeds, you seed a fruit by removing the seeds.

  • Health Care costs in Canada (for non-residents of the province) vary pretty wildly. Some provinces also have a mix of public and private clinics.

So, you'd need to phone around and check. The trip (flights, hotel, food) may be more expensive than the procedure itself.

  • Relationships and conversations require both sides to put in effort, or else they die.

You say you know that they will be there when you need it, but are you sure? It doesn't sound like you're giving them what they need.

  • The only thing there that I use is Battle.net.

This might not be helpful, but I found that installing it through Lutris worked for me. Systems and OSs are different, so it may not work for you.

Use your computer to do the things you want, and if you need to use Windows to do it, use Windows to do it.

  • How, if possible, can I log in to say, discuss.online above, with this account. Or do I need to make a second account over there.

You can view/comment/vote on all of the content there while logged into lemmy.world. As an example, you should be able to click this !flipperzero@programming.dev and participate there. or !AskUSA@discuss.online.

Also, related, is there a way to just, use my Mastodon account, and drop this one completely?

I am not a fan of "microblogging", so I am not 100% certain. I have seen a lot of posts/comments from Mastodon on lemmy instances, they are the people using hashtags.

Kbin and Mbin are Lemmy-like systems that also hooks into microblogging much easier, so you might be able to do a one account thing there much easier.

Again, not certain because microblogging is not my jam.
