  • You seem to be under the impression that I approve. No, Elons a cunt.

    But follow me here... Tesla dealerships are OWNED by Tesla, but will almost certainly be a seperate company on paper. If only to limit liability. For a vehicle to be "sold" and to claim the EV rebates iit has to have an owner, so "Tesla Dealers LLC" buys the cars off "Tesla MV production PTY LTD" money changes hands, they legally register the cars under the business name and then dont drive them. Even if they arent Ford Motor Company certainly has a motor pool for execs and those cars will likely be owned by the company too.

    It happens all the time in brand new motor vehicle sales. More like 1 to 3 cars a month at a dealership, usually to push the dealership over a threshold for a "volume bonus" (Sell 10 Corollas this month and the dealership gets $20,000 from Toyota)

    IF THIS IS WHAT THEY DID - Tesla Canada buys a shitload off Tesla Corporate cheap, pays the registration and tax, claims the subsidies. Do it with the oldest stock on the books to get rid of it and pump up Teslas plunging sales and stock and when the Canadian government cries "foul" (justifiably) Elon and Donny can shout about how its illegal and Canada is engaging in a trade war on private businesses who didnt break any laws... Sound like.something Elon and Donny would cook up?

    I wouldnt be surprised if they try and ship some of these "used" cars into the US and then cancel the registration to get the money back. I dont know how the taxes and stuff works on "used" cars. I'm just saying the basic practice isnt illegal and happens all the time and it doesnt mean they commited outright fraud. They definitely are doing something dodgy.

  • Tesla OWN their own dealerships, I imagine that if each one "Tesla Long Beach" or whatever isnt its own company then the dealerships in each country would be part of one company. The manufacturing plants and car production side of things will be a different company to the home batteries and the dealerships. All with the same parent company.

  • I dont know if this is what they did but... Its not illegal to legitimately sell the cars to the dealerships at cost, get the rebates and then have the dealerships sell the cars as "demonstrators" or "dealer stock"

    You're now technically selling a used car, but to someone buying a car saving a few grand "why is that one cheaper" "Ah its technically a demonstration model, but we never put any miles on it. So instead of 5 years warranty, you get 4 years 10 months, but it is $10,000 cheaper." Can be a hell of a motivator.

    Also it pumps Teslas short term numbers and move old stock at the same time.

  • It has also been ruled in court (I think in Australia but I dont remember for certain) that it is legally binding as a verbal agreement.

    Basically a farmer sent a message to a wholesaler saying "Hey, I need to double my stock feed order for next quarter" or something like that, the supplier sent back a thumbs up. So the delivery arrived and it was only the regular amount. The farmer had to buy the extra amount at retail prices and it cost him tens of thousands more, so he sued for damages. The supplier argued that text messages and thumbs up werent the correct ordering procedure and that he wasnt liable, the court ruled effectively that "Then you should have said that. A thumbs up is a general term of positive response to a question or statement and in this case constitutes acceptance of a verbal agreement" and had to cough up.

    Found the case, it was Canada and the farmer F-ed up not the supplier.

  • I watched a video on this and while it does vary widely by prefecture one of the big reasons is their waste management/recycling rules.

    Often, to demolish a house, theres usually a flat fee and its just bulldozed, put into a truck and dumped. To renovate, you have to dispose of every type of waste according to the class of that waste. Which is labour intensive and time consuming.

  • So many people love the narrative that they are idiots.

    Congratulations then, the commander in cheif of the worlds most powerful army and the worlds richest man are idiots. The most powerful democratic nation on earth just got usurped by Pinky and The Brain. If you're so fucking clever and they are so fucking dumb, how could you let this happen?

    They are a lot of things, but stupid isnt one of them.

  • Its not just Japan.

    Squid game, Money heist, Furies and a few other things Ive watched just on Netflix in the last few years just hit differently. Hollywood just has too many formulas that become obvious once you notice them, too many investors and networks wanting a safe ROI as opposed to pure creativity. Even the brits are a bit more willing to put "unconventionally attractive" people in leading roles and write things a bit dryer and grittier than a lot of American productions.

    Something about stuff not coming through that system just feels different.

  • Hobbyist race car builder/mechanic, sometimes you need cheap tools to break, bend, grind or cut to do one job.

    I have a spanner that has been lovingly butchered to remove one sensor on a steering rack on one model of car. Its a common failure point and replacing it either means custom specialty tool or complete steering rack removal and wheel allignment.

  • 20 million divided by 1.7 is about $11 per person, which isnt really that high.

    I also think theres a distinction to be made between microtransactions in f2p titles and microtransactions in AAA premium titles. I logged something like 4000 hours in Mechwarrior online and I bought mech packs because I wanted to support the devs.

        ~~~~Part of the reason Lemmy is seeing a lot of growth is that posts critical of the trump administration, Luigi Mangioni, critical of reddit, etc. Are either being banned, removed or burried by algorithms, so if you want to discuss them you HAVE to come here.
    What I think you need to do is have multiple accounts, I have one with a LOT of filters. "Trump, Drumpf, Trumpist, MAGA, Elon, Musk, Tesla, Rep, Republican " you get the idea. Any community I have no interest in blocked, plenty of users who go into benign subs and bring up politics blocked...  Its my relaxing feed. NSFW filter on
     I have one with the only filter being the nsfw one. I see the whole disaster.
    I have one on Lemmy.nsfw... for reasons. Filter by local...
