That's why. Shitheads want the labor. But they don't want to pay a fair wage to everyone. Not even for hot dangerous work like this. Ever seen a video of an accident at a steel mill? It's horrific death and disfigurement. Might get your feet burned off. Might get caught under some 2000 degree steel and cook to death. And these bastards don't want to pay for that risk.
Isn't it though? Was slavery ended by debate? Did Lincoln send a strongly worded letter to the president of the CSA that tore at his heart strings and made him see the humanity in his slaves? How about the Gilded Age? The unions sat the bosses down and laid out the facts and the oligarchs of the day just let us have the 8hr day, 40hr week, weekends, pensions. All out of the goodness of their hearts.
Some people just need killing. That's all there is to it. I'm American. I know how we're propagandized from the age of comprehension into believing that violence is never the answer. But that's all it was. Propaganda. It took murder to make United Healthcare provide the service they exist to provide. And it didn't last 6 months. At that point more murder was necessary but nobody stepped forward.
I'm tired. I would prefer immediate collapse to slow decline. It is going down. Sooner or later. Damage done. Which is not something I lament in itself. This is an evil country that has done incalculable harm to the world. The passing of the US wont be mourned by anyone who's opinion is worthy of respect.
It's just an unconstitutional tax on Americans. But I'm glad to see it. As stupid as it is it further isolates this shithole. Makes other countries do business with each other and exclude this country. Which is a win for everyone. Except us. But we elected a fascist gameshow host. We got a debt to pay.
This country might limp along for a few decades. But the USA as we knew it is dead. Do you really think Chump is the only fascist with aspirations that big? Do you think the Heritage Foundation goes away when the One Big Beautiful Obituary finally drops? Do you think they won't try again? Do you think MAGA won't enthusiastically leap at the next swaggering fascist?
Our institutions are not built to withstand such direct assault. The intentional dismantling we've been seeing. The regulatory, legislative, legal, and economic capture that has occurred. If it isn't a strongman it'll be some businessman who isn't a failure. One with big Corp backing.
The sheer momentum of the dollar and power of US financialization will keep things going. The branding will remain. But little if anything will stop our continuing decline. Saying nothing of the damage done internationally. Geopolitically. The US can never be trusted on anything ever again longer than a 4 year timetable because at any time we could elect another used car salesman or failed gameshow host who wants to be a dictator.
I want Ford Escorts, Geo Metros, VW Rabbits. I want a small, uncomplicated, economy shitbox. A small cheap car that my broke ass can fix when it breaks. And no car company that makes cars in this country makes that anymore.
Domestic US cars can't compete with foreign cars. We've known that forever. Or at least since the 90s.
Look no further than Kei trucks being illegal.
Our overengineered, over priced, unnecessarily complicated crap just can't compete with simple transport vehicles because they aren't made as a tool to serve a purpose. Everyone wants to make a Corolla into a Cadillac and sell it for Cadillac prices.
