Thanks for the first hand account. It sounds just like how crime in the US is sensationally portrayed. The reality is even in some of our worst cities like Chicago, violent crime is usually between criminals themselves and usually within a few neighborhoods that everyone else avoids. Your average middle class family in the suburbs isn’t really affected.

5 guys is insane where I live. $45 for 1 double hamburger, med drink, 1 kids hamburger, med drink and a med fry to share. I stopped going to 5 guys after that one a few months ago.

If you are pressed for time and/or have your hungry kids in the car then a couple of dollars isn’t a big deal. But that doesn’t mean those consumers are going to come back again after getting burned by high prices.

Starbucks raised the price of my iced coffee and changed the recipe for the brew. I still ordered and drank it, but I have cut my visits from three or four times a week to only once in the last three months. Welcome brother, I was also banned from Reddit after being active on it since the great Digg exodus. For reference the post that got me banned was when I pointed out that American ADA laws guaranteeing public access have been around much longer than EU laws which is why they likely did not see as many disabled people in public places in Europe as they just can’t physically access them until the architecture catches up. Apparently that was considered bigotry in a European sub and was the final straw that got me permanently banned.

Lemmie is by and large much more liberal and left leaning than Reddit is. (at least the subs I’ve visited have been.) I haven’t seen the retaliation or pre-emptive bans for just joining or posting in a particular sub that I saw over the last few years on Reddit though. I also haven’t seen any bans due to frequency or activity.

Much like Reddit if you make a comment that goes against a subs meta or against the beliefs of the moderators they will find some way to ban you from their sub. I’d say many subs in Lemmie are less encouraging of discourse that does not fit within their beliefs.

So even if you probably can’t get a site wide Lemmie ban you can still be banned from individual subs.

Post and comment away, just keep in mind if your content does not fit the subs meta they will probably find a way to ban you from the sub.

I answered all of your questions, yet once again you fall back on downplaying the seriousness of the crimes they were planning.

Putting “XD” at the end of every one of your statements doesn’t make them pithy, smart or relevant. It just shows me you’re pedantic to the point that you can’t string together a coherent argument without leaning on whatever the current zeitgeist is.

Hopefully the law will prosecute those activists and put them away for a long, long time.

The protesters displayed all of the traits you mentioned. By conspiring and planning to commit unlawful actions. The protesters displayed intent to break the law detain/disrupt the travel of innocent bystanders (illegal in itself) and potentially endangering their lives in the process (super duper illegal).

Highway engineers can be charged with manslaughter if they display willful ignorance, intent to break the law or have demonstrated that they were deceitful in acquiring a position they were not accredited for. Generally speaking that is very hard to prove in court especially when dealing with a large corporation with legions of lawyers to back them up. Hence why it is rare.

It is not so hard to prove with a dozen or so activists who have a history of such actions which are wildly unpopular and illegal. Hence why they are charged.

But there are examples such as the recent Boeing 737 Max disasters where criminal culpability for engineers and managers have been proven. I’d argue the punishment or rather the settlement isn’t enough in this particular case, but that wasn’t your question. Your question was why aren’t they charged.

“Looks at SpaceX”, Iterate quickly and break things can work for rockets, it just depends on the development phase and the type of project. I wouldn’t “iterate quickly” with manned, extra terrestrial or important cargo missions.

But it can be used for the early development of rockets. Space X had a deep well of proven technology to draw upon during the development of the Falcon rocket. They put the tech together and iterated quickly to get a final product.

Blue Origin as well as the Artemis program both use traditional techniques with similar proven technologies. I’d argue they aren’t as successful or were never intended to be successful (Artemis is just a jobs program for shuttle contractors at this point).

It is disingenuous to conflate a generic traffic jam that happens naturally, with intentionally blocking traffic and conspiring to detain people for the purpose of publicity.

I see, so when police violate an individual’s rights it’s malfeasance on their part. Yet when protesters that you happen to agree with violate those rights in a shockingly similar manner, it’s a disturbance and the individual should “get over it” and it’s their problem.

You seem to understand how an individual who doesn’t have a stake in your cause could feel victimized by actions that directly affect their safety and liberty. But you and the protesters don’t care about those particular victims, you want just the attention.

So I’ll ask it again what are your feelings on the practice of Kettling? It seems like if you’re ok with being illegally detained by protesters, you would be just as ok with being illegally detained by police?

Road closures are not

I think it is a ploy by Russia and China to get the US to hurt itself.

Mexico is key to our economic future. The manufacturing which the US is trying to onshore needs many different inputs some from lower cost labor sources. Mexico provides some of the middleish parts of the process (yes Mexican labor is more skilled than other inputs from South Asia). While the US labor pool provides the upper end. Cars, appliances, low end electronics etc. are where Mexico comes in. The US just doesn’t have the labor pool to do all of this at a decent price point.

While central and southern Mexico may not be big fans of the US. People in the North are fairly pro USA as they see a lot of economic integration. Dropping bombs on them even when we are going after the cartels is not going to keep them on our side and we will see the anti US sentiment take over the country.

It’s basically one of the few extremely dumb things we could do to royally fuck up our economy.

Interesting… so what are your thoughts on the practice of Kettling then? Police have used this tactic on protests that were properly permitted but may run afoul of the incumbent parties views.

Using your logic this seems like it is just a small inconvenience for the protesters.
