  • You should also know that SLS is banned in the EU, so this post made no sense to me until I went to Google for answers...

I swear, sometimes it's hard to fathom the little ways you got it rough over there.

A Google listicle about "7 banned substances in the EU" or some shit, straight up lied to me.

SLS (Sodium laurilsulfate) is not banned, not even particularly regulated, in medicinal products, in the EU.

"The vast majority of SLS use is in oral products (tablets and capsules) where it rarely displays any adverse reactions."

It only is "not permitted", as a food additive in the EU, and there is a 2017 study which argues for its regulation in skin products, because of irritation.

I was careless on the internet, and the world is more complicated than it seemed at first glance. Story as old as time.

  • Interesting. Well, bodies are a chaotic mess, so it makes sense.

But now I wonder, because half an hour ago I was reading around here about toothpastes in the US having SLS, a thing for making the toothpaste foam better, that causes canker sores to a bunch of people, that is banned in the EU (where I'm from), but legal in the US (as usual).

I wonder, even if you're not from the US (more so if you are)... Toothpaste isn't the same everywhere, so it could be that we just have different toothpastes.

  • Toothpaste is (almost) entirely safe. Only real danger is fluoride, which needs unlikely amounts to reach toxicity (a kid was hospitalised after eating an entire tube, kinda amounts). (I personally cannot guarantee that you won't get the shits with the pictured abomination, but you will be safe, at least)

The pea size is the amount required, because that's how much you need to clean your teeth.

Advertising companies display full-brush coverage to boost sales, and the only thing they're endangering is your wallet (and the environment due to over production. And your sanity. And other things. But not your health).

    • Tl;dr :

Without improbable breakthroughs in Carbon Capture, or devastating energy crises, it's too late to prevent going above 1.5C (though surpassing it and coming back down may be possible).

But, de-fossilfuelification of the energy sector is already inevitable due to market forces alone, as well as the technological capital already built.

Same goes for the actual monetary capital needed for the rapid transition. The amount we need to spend is similar in scope to (other) global-scale government spending programs (on other big issues like COVID, as well as... well, fossil fuel subsidies...)

What is limiting us, is political will.

    • Tl;dr end

My opinion now: Interesting stats, funky way to display graphs (worth checking the article for that alone lol), my tldr is way to short to get anything but the spirit of the article. (The droplets of hidden passive aggressive snark in some parts of it, like the "governments procrastinated the solution and now they have to last-minute-panic it" graph, were absolutely refreshing)

Someone should definitely summon the tldr bot, and honestly, people should just check the article, it's good, if a little on the doomscrolly side

  • Naw, the farts are actually the best comparison.

Plants "breathe" normally too, taking in oxygen, and producing CO2. Separately, they also take on CO2 and sunlight, and produce "food" and expel oxygen.

Since it's a by-product of their "eating"... It really is a fart, isn't it?

  • Take this with a grain of salt because it's what some guy on the internet (me) "remembers reading something about, once", but adblock rates on the general internet, were around 3% or something similar (can't be bothered, please look it up yourself)

Therefore, I really wouldn't hope for such an insane number as 15% on YouTube.

We are not the primary users. Your uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces are. The shopkeeper in the corner store. Your teacher. Your 50 year old doctor.

  • This comment is what happens when I try to reply to the deleted comment from the other guy. I think it's because you must have commented after they deleted theirs, and maybe took their comment id or something.

    Neat.

  • I think there's client sided stuff to do to solve that still, I'm 90% sure on my pc shorts open as normal videos due to an add-on I added a long time ago (the most popular for modding the look and feel of it, someone definitely can add it because I'm out of the house)

EDIT: Someone who deleted their comment (saw the notification that stayed) got it right, it was Enhancer for YouTube. It's the bees' knees, very recommended for everything (except adblock, for that get uBlock origin)
