  • This does appear to be the worlds shortest article. I'm curious if anyone knows what NZ games I should be on the lookout for? I know about Mini Metro, Mini Motorways, and DREDGE. Any others?

  • There is a troll currently spamming NSFW images to popular communities. Report them, they will get removed. But they just make a new account and keep going. It will just be a battle until they get bored, there aren't many tools available to fight it.

  • I have a theory that this is all planned. Tank share market, buy lots of shares, in a few years they get all their wealth back and more.

  • I don't like my chances of swaying IT. The organisation is too big and I'll get told I should be using Edge which is the only officially supported browser.

  • uBlock Origin Lite does work, but it's predefined lists only. You can't use the element zapper 🙁

  • Your sister spent a million dollars on two wedding dresses?

  • Officially only Edge is supported, but Chrome is tolerated. It's a full MS environment.

  • I can't install anything. I'm lucky I can install uBlock Origin because I worked out later most extensions are disabled too. But I guess it's only matter of time until that disappears.

  • I didn't even check. Just paid for some KMs, stuck the thing on the car, and promptly forgot about it until recently.

  • Cries in only Chrome and Edge at work 😢

  • Feature request?

  • The thing is, they spent those years building out the voice assistant support. That was probably a better use of their time than reworking the entire interface to work with a TV remote, in my opinion.

They are a small team with a lot of help from the community. You can't tell the community what to do since they volunteer their time, and the small team has a focused road map that I think makes sense.

I bet you could find another 100 examples of things not done for 5 years, it's just this is the one you in particular want.

  • Well now I don't feel so dumb because that's not at all obvious. I feel like this should have been part of the messaging when RUC came in for EVs!

Maybe it was and I wasn't paying attention.

  • I treat Immich like a frontend. I have photos in Nextcloud, plus local and remote backup (1 2 3 style). Then Immich is set to absorb the photos from Nextcloud, and the photos are exposed read-only to Immich so it can't damage anything.

  • Nice, thanks! @eagleeyedtiger@lemmy.nz also pointed out it's written on the RUC label on your windscreen.

I feel like that should have been in the messaging when they brought in RUC for EVs.

  • Oh shit does it? I'm dumb haha! The car is out at the moment but I will check when it gets home. Thanks for the tip!

  • Can you? I had a quick search but couldn't find it. Where do I need to do to see it?

  • Haha this was my first thought too.

Immich is very clear: "⚠️ Do not use the app as the only way to store your photos and videos."

In that case, you have your content elsewhere. Make a backup of relevant volumes and a database dump (for your albums and such) and then try updating. Roll back if it doesn't work. If if you don't have much in the way of Immich meta data, and the upgrade didn't work, then you could just start from scratch and re-import your content.

  • Ah sorry I misunderstood.

My hopes and dreams about EV prices are just that. Hopes and dreams 😆. But I'd be happy paying $20k for a car with 500km range, if that's more achievable 🤞

The RUC for all vehicles thing is interesting. I'm a big supporter of it in theory, but the system needs huge improvements. I bought some RUC at the point EVs got subject to RUC but when am I supposed to buy more? No one, not NZTA, not the police, no one knows if my RUC are used up or not. I don't know either, I can't find the confirmation email (assuming there was one) from when I bought them. Until I get my next WOF and they send me a bill because I haven't paid.

The system needs huge improvements before it's suitable for all vehicles, and I don't know how that's achievable (most cars don't tell anyone how much they are being driven so no one can send you a reminder).

  • Oh yes I can't stand all the packaging. And all the slaw 😆

What I want is to try a bunch of new things to see what's good. But their recipes always have "Nan's secret spice mix" and shit like that so you can't use the recipe again. We have a bunch of bargain box recipes from a decade ago (that we were given from someone else, we never actually subscribed) and we are still using some favourites from that bunch. All the spice mixes tell you what's in them and the ratios. I suspect they don't do that anymore though, got to get users locked in to your eco system.

  • Our Leaf has about 130KM range, we almost never have to charge when out and about. I think I've done it two or three times in the I think 2 years we've had it.

What I'm waiting for is for some 1000KM range car to become available. There are some in production but only fancy cars. Then when they become used cars I can pick up one that can still do 800 or 900 KM on a charge. For $20k I hope (I know I'm dreaming). With battery technology the way it is, I bet EVs lose value faster than other cars (as you can get more range as technology improves).

$30k is still far more than I've ever spent on a car, not only will I have to save up I'll also have to get the courage to spend it 😆.
