  • I am under the impression that the H1-B visa program is taking away jobs from people born here (aka citizens) because it all you have to do is lie about how you couldn't find a qualified citizen to work, then you can pay someone a fraction of what it would cost to hire a citizen.

  • Turns out I was off by a decade. 1964 farmall 140. Front grill is white mesh that is bent in 90 degree vertical steps. Love that the grills are such an identifier. Very postwar almost brutalist modern. Not the deco modern of the 40s-50s models. EDIT: not narrow front, but I guess that’s a given for a 60’s model?

  • I’m thinking of the mid-2000s Exploder that had a widely-known transmission fault that would put the tranny into a permanent fault mode where the transmission light would flash and the gearing was noisy/weird. Ford’s response was “out of warranty, sorry not sorry”. Drove it nearly 100k miles like that. EDIT: forgot about the Focus that wrapped its hood around my windshield when I was in the left lane of a highway going 80 mph.

  • The small motor industry broke that tradition. There are CARB compliant motors/equipment for the CA market, but if you’re not in CA or the 14 other states that adopted CARB, you can get cheaper non-CARB compliant motors/equipment. Industry decided it was more profitable to split the market.

  • I’m on the fence about your comment. I agree that many of the 50 page inspiring monologues were hers. But I’m failing to see what makes her a terrible person. Hotheaded, poor impulse control, not a team player (wait am I talking about myself?), sure. Implausibly permitted to lead time and again in a way that makes it difficult to suspend disbelief, absolutely. But terrible? She’s not space Karen.
