  • Clearly you should be able to choose between an install without anything on it, an install with just a few apps and an install with all basic apps.

That would be perfect. We shouldn’t forget that a lot of beginners are using Linux for the first time with Ubuntu and you shouldn’t ask too much of them otherwise they’ll just go back to windows/apple.

  • I’m looking into creating a bootable USB on Linux with GParted, Clonezilla and a few other tools. Can you do that with Ventoy?

Most people are talking about having a multiple distributions on one USB stick, but I just wanted to be sure you can also do that with these tools 😇

  • But witch partition should I shrink?

The source BTRFS one with my Fedora installation? And then leave the small ext4 and EFI ones that were automatically created during installation untouched?

If I resize my Fedora partition with Gparted it’s gonna keep its data and not get erased?

  • Good as everyone should be able to try to do some repairs when something is broken.

But programmed obsolescence is even worse as you have perfectly working devices which you can’t use anymore because they are officially not supported (by an os for instance).

  • Well just to give an update, I’ve now installed Fedora on that MacBook Pro and it was pretty easy. The only thing which didn’t work out of the box was the wifi. I had to install ROM fusion and then it downloaded some drivers.

Otherwise everything ran smoothly except for the installation of the windows 10 virtual machine in gnome boxes. I had installed the flatpak one, but that one doesn’t allow you to use the usb ports, so I had to reinstall the machine on the Rpm version.

So that old beast can now have a long life again!

  • Well the desktop OS is what made me choose a Surface Go 1 as my main computer. And now that I've switched to Linux (Fedora), I'm even more thankful that you could apply every tutorial you found on the web for that tablet.

  • Well finally I think we’ll keep MacOs Catalina for when she wants to use Apple stuff and dual boot it with Fedora for everything else. That way she can also slowly ease herself into using Linux.

Since I already have a perfectly set up Fedora installation, I wanted to know if anyone had an idea on how to duplicate it without going through 1000 steps.

But I might be in the wrong place since the second part isn’t really Apple related..

  • Well I’m starting on Nebula right now and sadly the content isn’t there yet.

Maybe it’ll come but I found more things which interest me on Odysee or Dailymotion for now.

Still I really like the idea of paying for a subscription and not being the product anymore.
