  • Someone on Lemmy once calculated that he could lose 99% of his net value, then lose 99% of what's left and he'd still be a multimillionaire. From the 320B, that would still leave him with 32M.

  • I literally just looked up the swastikar hashtag on Mastodon 🤭

  • Is the hate more of an American thing because of the association with MLMs and their inflated claims?

Here in the UK, they're used for minor ailments, relaxation and general fragrancing. If you tried to advertise them as a cancer cure, you'd get into a lot of trouble. I don't like the smell of lavender, but I love how good it is for sore throats and minor burns (stops blistering and scarring if you put it on as soon as you've finished cooling it).

Speaking of burns, I only got the memo recently, so for those who also missed it, the advice is now to use tepid water to cool a burn rather than cold (apparently because colder water will make the blood vessels constrict so the heat doesn't leave as quickly).

  • Only the Jubilee line has them here in London. They're a good feature. There was talk of bringing them to other lines, but I've not heard any update on that in years.

  • I still have the html files for my first geocities site. It was a Commander Keen fansite with info that was already on every other fansite. But it was mine! And I used marquee tags and background midi files and gifs whenever I wanted to, and WordArt for the page headings.

Even then I was late to the party. My the time I joined, geocities was part of Yahoo. I remember when the URLs used to be cities and neighbourhoods.

    Also, Onchat.com.

  • Nah, my parents weren't shocked at how messed up I turned out, they were just even more angry at me.

  • UK here. It's the reverse for me.

  • I thought it was more Sheev was trump and Darth Jar Jar was more like musk pulling the strings.

Darth Jar Jar has more class than either of those two creatures.

  • Right? Is it so hard to just ask "what are your relevant skills and what experience do you have"? Why be so general and vague? I don't get all the fakeness, I really don't, especially in jobs like retail. Why the need for long forms and multiple choice questions and all the other nonsense.

Interviews only test how good you are at interviews, not how good you are at the job.

  • Same with me, except every job I got was from employers who were desperate and would take anyone. The only exception is the job I have now, which ironically enough, I'm kinda crap at.

Traditional job interviews are very much geared against autistic people. I was absolutely awful at interviews, until the job centre actually sent me to a coaching service and I had it spelt out exactly what each interview question meant and what kind of answer I was expected to give.

Turns out "tell me about yourself" doesn't mean tell them where you were born and what your hobbies are 😅

  • Your honour, I'm just really excited to be here!

  • Ya will, ya will, ya will, ya will!
