  • I know proton started offering an email aliasing service with proton pass, and that other email/password manager products offer similar services.

How effective do you think those alias emails will be for generating spam email addresses?

I'd imagine the proton one is probably as safe as it gets, what with proton not being a us company. Does anyone have contrary thoughts on that?

  • Interesting to hear.

I'm super pumped for the project, but am largely waiting to get properly set up with it until there's a good app and I can on-board the friends and family all in one go. Really hoping to get them all off TikTok/YT Shorts/Reels/whatever corporate and nation run projects the kids are using these days.

  • Oh, is loops going to be run as a totally separate service?

I'm not well educated on their project (nor on activity pub beyond a surface level understanding), but it was my understanding that is was going to be run as a sub-service of pixelfed. Don't suppose you can point to any resources on that topic?

  • Moderately certain this is already happening, as evidenced by loops showing up so often in my "all" tab. If I understand correctly (and for the love of all that is good, someone please correct me if I'm wrong), Loops is "hosted" via pixelfed.

  • Wasn't that the narrative being pushed after that bug hurricane this past fall? That FEMA wasn't passing resources to right wing counties?

Edit: "Trump also claimed without providing evidence on his social media platform, Truth Social, that the federal government and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper were "going out of their way to not help people in Republican areas"" --Hurricane Helene Wikipedia Article

  • Big same.

I REALLY like Andy Weir's work, but was super surprised when he delivered a not-at-all humanoid alien in a compelling way. The Alien' crazy math skills felt really Deus Ex Machina, but was still compelling.

I wish Weir would write something like The Expanse, with a major human civilization spanning the solar system, maybe something even bigger. He's good at making normal problems in fantastic situations feel real and grounded and I'd love to see that style continued into bigger stories like that.

  • NTA. Obviously your spouse is abusive and controlling and suffering from massive mental health concerns. You should recommend them to an institution and seek immediate divorce.

And your friends are showing ALL the red flags of toxic positivity. Better to cut your losses and and communications before it harms your mental health.

Just listen to the internet people. You fit in here better anyway.

  • I def like this notion, but would really only want it for posts and top level comments.

I would greatly appreciate if this were implemented modularly (that is: in such a way that we could toggle the kinds of content that are filtered based on account age, so as to allow me to ignore posts and top level comments, but so other could also disable each of those as they see fit).
