I thought about trying something like this the other day and quickly reconsidered

Yeah, that update was the final push that moved me to Linux on my primary computer. I’ve used Linux for about 20 years on everything that wasn’t my gaming PC and between the advancements made by Valve and the increasing invasive nature of Windows put an end to my relationship with Microsoft.

Early 2000s, I was a young pc repair guy and Linux offered a free solution to “what to do with these computers people abandon”. Started out with Redhat when it was free but switched to Ubuntu when it came out. Since then I always ran Linux on a secondary computer or laptop because I needed windows to play games. Back in 2008 I ran Linux exclusively for a while because I couldn’t afford a windows license and I played some games using WINE. As of last year I have again switched to using Linux exclusively due to privacy concerns and Valve making Proton work for most games I play.

Worked as a computer repair tech forever ago. We ended up with tons of spare parts and abandoned computers. I took a few home and looked for things I could use them for. Quickly found Linux and gave it a shot. It was perfect, I didn’t need to spend $100+ for a copy, there were tons of options, and I could do anything with it. Spent the next 20 years using it on every computer except my main desktop because of games. At one point I was 100% Linux and all I played was WoW using WINE. Now I’m back to 100% Linux thanks to steam and proton making a healthy chunk of my library playable.

Any time someone comes to me with an old computer my recommendation is to throw Linux on it and get a few more years of usefulness out of it.

a union is a legally protected way for works to collectively bargain with their employers. Internally, union dues are used to pay for legal assistance (among other things) that can help the workers. A union can make the affiliated company do things by creating legal agreements and organizing strikes. A company often finds it is easier to give into a unions demands rather than have their employees stop working and hold signs outside letting everyone know that they are being treated poorly. A company can tell a union to fuck off and they often do, this leads to the workers going on strike and bringing business to a standstill.

Almost every right that workers have today has been won by unions, sometimes violently. 40 hour work weeks, weekends off, vacation days, sick days, health benefits, minimum wage, overtime pay, and many others are all from the collective bargaining power of workers unions.

They have already made their content almost unusable in search results. I’ve started adding Reddit to my exclusions when searching.

Imagine if adventure mode was Caves of Qud… If ever two small devs combined projects that is the one I would want to see.

You could accomplish something in a 20 minute session of D3. You could get a rift done, maybe two, get enough stuff to upgrade something or find a better piece of equipment. You can’t get anything worthwhile done in D4 with only 20 minutes.

Being “not that bad” is still bad. It’s not worth the price.

Not worth it regardless of the platform. I loved the Diablo games and this game was the end of that love.

Happened to me, got worse each booster. The initial shot had me feeling kinda drained for a day or two, second made me feel like I had a cold, third made me feel like I had the flu really bad. I haven’t gotten the most recent one yet because of how bad the last one was. All were Moderna.

I could fork ClamAV and call it OysterAV then there would be a less maintained alternative

I haven’t used a cable to sync my iPhone for a long time. The speed does not matter to me unless they give us free tethering via cable. Ever since I got a box of wireless chargers to scatter around the house I don’t think I have used a cable.

Yes, that is the acceptable use case. Aging, I maintained software in a usable form. Not “we’re showing off our container engine so everyone has to use it now”.

I stopped using Ubuntu because of snap a while ago. I tend to run Linux on older machines and flat packs tend to take much longer to load than native apps. I get that they have their purpose but I would prefer to choose to use rather than be forced. I’m currently trying out POP_OS! and it’s a welcome flavor of Ubuntu
