  • Wait! Girls EXIST on the internet ‽‽‽ /s

  • Ok cool, but they've done this once before, for all of a few weeks. Hopefully this time they don't reneg or impose specific conditions.

Now, can we please have a better codec for twitch? Sure I have NVENC now, but eventually Im going to have AMD card, and I want good codec support on Linux.

EDIT: looks like there is a condition: no chat merging... Really?

  • It was good for certain situations, such as obscure subreddits and google was good for others.

They both had their benefits and drawbacks.

  • The only problem with peertube is the lack of monetisation for creators. In fact creators are more likely to have to donate to keep the platform up, especially considering it has not ads. Meaning it's kind of the exact opposite of YouTube

The only way for it to work even remotely like YouTube would be some kind of donation revenue split - any excess revenue not used to keep the platform going goes to the creators of the videos.*

I guarantee with a video platform like that the amount creators could potentially not get much if not anything, as hosting videos is often a few times more expensive than hosting even just pictures.

Peertube only really makes sense as a self hosted archive, just in case you get banned off YouTube or want to archive your streams. That or a platform for not-for-profits to post their video content.

  • Look up CoolerControl I use it for my Corsair AIO, and my CPU cooler runs entirely off a USB header. But CoolerControl also supports motherboard headers.

You can use it to make custom fan curves and check pump/fan speeds.

  • There are a lot of pro audio tools available on Linux. I myself use some of the more basic tools, such as the universal plugin host Carla to host LV2/3, VST and LADSPA based audio plugins. And a basic lightweight MIDI mixing sftware called jack_mixer, combine that with a patchbay like qpwgraph, and virtual audio channels set up through pactl and I have a custom, lightweight but infinitely expandable plugin chain and mixer set up I can use for video recording and streaming.

But software ranges from that all the way to full featured integrated DAW setups and everything in between.

  • Wasn't that Kaze Emmanuar?

He did so much with that game, including decompiling the entire game and building modding tools to make it easier to make modifications. An absolute legend in the romhacking community.

    Obligatory Shoutouts to Simpleflips.

  • It's the sort of model that works untill it doesn't.

And the metric to know how well it works is piracy. Because Netflix don't release numbers for subscription cancellations. The more piracy goes up, the more people can be said to be leaving the paid subscription streaming service.

    Piracy, it's a service issue.

After we return back to pre-netflix-heyday piracy levels, all streaming services will slowly be relegated to the same status cable companies occupy today.

  • Sucks that Pandora left Australia with their "pick a song and we will create a radio station based on it". I used to use that all the time. I even would've considered starting a subscription if it hadn'tve withdrawn from the country when I started getting income.

  • Nice pussy!

  • A lot of these large over employed places don't hire for the extra Labor. They hire because it's a way to prevent competition. Why would an employee leave to join a competitor or create a competing start up company if he's being paid well to do next to nothing?

The only problem is that's only financially viable when interest rates are low and investors are willing to give out cash like it's candy.

  • Yes, but I'm not planning on doing full on farming.. rather a small set of crops I can manage on my own with gardening implements and my own bare hands. Times will be lean, and I'd have to ration what I have, and there's always the chance that a bad harvest could cause me to catch my death, but trying anything you can is the aim.

Maybe setting some bird traps or something is a good idea, it's worth a shot.

Basically to only grow as much as I need to survive. Might even fill tanks with the water to keep a surplus in case the water system loses pressure and water dries out. I have a set of gas stoves and dad loves his barbecues, so we can cook on propane, charcoal and we can even use the wood for our fireplace, and we could chop trees down in the park near my house for more wood heck our Falcon wagon runs on LPG, so we can use that in our barbecues as well if we can manage to adapt the nozzle on the filler cap.

It won't last forever, but the whole point of doing it is to give yourself enough time to come up with a plan and improve your issues over time.

Even with the power gone I still live in a city. And I guarantee the roads will be blocked with cars as more and more run out of petrol. Unless you can get out as quick as possible and can get fuel before the fuel stations run out of juice to pump the stuff, you aren't going to get far. So you might be better off staying put and only going short distances to conserve your fuel.

Of could if the outage is the result of EMP your modern car's electrics could be fried anyway. Unless you can find spare working parts to fix your ECUs and other computers or to manage to adapt your car to magnetos and carburettors, you won't be going anywhere anyway. Honestly the only thing that might still be working is my dad's Moto Guzzi. Just put the original ignition back on to it if the upgraded electronic ignition is fried and it will run, may have to push start it, but it will., and you can weave in and out of roadblocks with it, and all our other cars and our lawnmower can contribute their fuel via a siphon.

  • Honestly, I wonder if it would make me live longer. Sometimes it takes a literal crisis to get me out of my chair.

Sure the collapse of society will possibly happen. But that means all polluting systems would inevitably shut down. And at that point you have to get creative. While I don't live on a farm, it wouldn't take much to rob a store for seeds and food with the security systems down. And guns are few and far between here in aus.

  • Or just windows store exclusives..

I'll eat my fine leather hat before I use that dog shit store again.

Keep in mind that that's extra special because I don't own a fine leather hat, so I gotta buy one first.

  • Mid roll ads are fine if the video was made with midrolls in mind that the midrolls actually happened at the times the maker of the video has set them up to happen.

Sure they are selective about which videos have ads, but not when the ads come on.

YouTube, with no adblocker or premium subscription has basically become an interrupting cow, making noise at the most innapropriate time and then you have to wat-MOOOOOOOOOO-ch the ad, then you rewind 10 seconds to get your cont-MOOOOOOOOOO-text back. There needs to be a legal limit to the number of midrolls you can stuff in a short space of time.

I'd rather watch a series of multiple consecutive midroll ads placed at a prespecified time than a random number of ads scattered at completely random intervals, Ruining the flow and mood of the video.

    Its frustrating af.

  • When it comes to selling shit, trump is pretty good at it.. when it comes to keeping shit secret, trump is a walking, secret spilling megaphone.

But hey, we got some sweet submarines out of it! Thanks guys!

  • I mean, it makes sense, DDG already use apple maps for their maps platform.

  • The Microsoft bailing out apple for competition, is arguably worse than firefox and google. Why? Because apple software required apple hardware.

Microsoft had essentially a monopoly on every piece of computer hardware that was not made by apple, while apple was (and still is) in its own playground with its own glue to eat. They weren't really competing. If you wanted something that was not expensive apple hardware, Microsoft was the only option.

Now Linux is more of an option, but at 2-3% of the market share, it's hardly the start of competition.

I believe Microsofts 3 point plan involved these things:

    1. either a) embrace extend extinguish the competition or b) buy the competition out.
    2. get retailers to only stock windows on non apple machines.
    3. give discounts to schools so the kids become familiar with our software over everything else, so our methods become the "industry standard" and are considered "user friendly"

And Microsoft isn't the only company guilty of this, Adobe, Autodesk, and so many more. And parts 2 and 3 are still issues today that are incredibly hard to stop. Because the vast majority of people, including politicians don't care or don't want to switch. Windows, Office and the Adobe suite are practically ingrained into society at this point, and people are more likely to use the familiar, and fear or get frustrated with the unfamiliar.
