  • Sauron Denies Request for Contract Information

Reading a prepared statement from the tower of Barad-dûr, the Mouth of Sauron indicated today that the Dark Lord would not be complying with the demands of lawmakers to provide information on its contracts with the Trump Administration. The Messenger of Mordor further called the demands "ridiculous" and "unnecessary government intrusion into private affairs of Sauron, who does not answer to any higher authority, save that of his fallen master Morgoth." Furthermore, the statement chastised the lawmakers for contacting Sauron through the Palantir, which he described as "an illegal privacy breach," and said he planned to seek legal action for this invasion of his personal communications.

  • The real answer is that when I closed the tags, they didn't show up in the comment. So I left them open, because it looked utterly ridiculous. But I like your interpretation way better!

  • <unwarranted rage No way, BONTO! sucked. You couldn't even Slorp your entire friends list anymore, and they added all of those BONTOgrams for no reason. We disagree on a topic, so I despise you now and your entire genetic line. </rage

But you should really try NeWSlarP, a FLOSS fork of Slorp by the original developer that brings back both SlorpTokens and Schlarpmänner!

  • I had an old school friend I visited in Chicago, and her apartment had a locked door in her bedroom against the back wall, and her landlord had just said "it's not used, just ignore it." It didn't even have a doorknob, so she had just ignored it for like 3 years. The building had been there for like 100 years.

Naturally, after some alcohol, I convinced her I could lockpick it, and we pushed her bed to the side and I spent about ten drunken minutes picking the deadbolt. We finally got it open, and discovered it was a straight-up small elevator! None of the lights or buttons worked, and we were worried about it falling, so we got out of there.

To this day, I'm not sure if it was an old building elevator for residents and her room had been a hallway, or if it was some kind of (very small) service elevator, or something for the ADA (handicapped requirements). But it was absolutely fascinating.

  • I was a huge Star Wars fan before Disney took over, and haven't liked anything they've done with it. Most people agree, with 2 exceptions: Andor, which I admittedly haven't watched yet, and...Rogue One

I don't think Rogue One is much better than the other Disney Star Wars drivel, but I'm apparently the only person in the universe who thinks that. I've watched it three times and just don't get why people think it's good.

  • My new dryer, which is significantly better in almost all aspects than my old one, has a non-adjustable very quiet alert (bell? signal? alarm?). I often can't even hear it, so I find myself completely forgetting about it until later that day or tomorrow.

  • Headline could be misleading, but it basically means that (according to one independent analysis) China's emissions have just stopped growing this year. They are still the world's largest contributor by far. This hilariously optimistic chart from the same site shows them relative to the US and almost all of Europe:

Still, not gonna knock what is good news, or at least "better than the alternative" news

  • Fantastisch Geschichte!

"Er ist ganz schön dehnbar" = "He's a stretchy boy", LOL. Es tut mir leid für mein schlechtes Deutsch.
