  • I started playing this morning. The environment is very cute and the mechanics are kind of hilarious. I spent half the time dragging my kid around and getting his head stuck in the snow, or spinning him around on the ice. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re looking for some lighthearted, artistic fun.

  • First of all there are real risks to boiling water in the microwave, but I get why most people ignore them. Second of all, not ALL of us have microwaves (I don’t), third of all, it’s not “one more thing” if it’s an appliance used every day for multiple reasons. You seem to have an odd hate towards kettles.

  • I’ll be the first to admit that in no way have I been even close to perfect in terms of doing all the doctor recommends, but I do cook 90% of my meals at home from actual ingredients, drink a lot of water, have a great group of close friends who like to get out and do stuff, and generally continue to stay active mentally and physically. I don’t have kids, so from what I hear that may help somewhat with sleep patterns. I definitely stay out too late on occasion, and probably drink too much alcohol, but am at a normal, healthy weight, and have good checkup numbers. So yeah, just that same old damn boring stuff…eat right, stay active, stretch, strength train, drink lots of water. Lame, but effective.

    I will say, there was a time in my life when I was very unhappy with my job and location, so I sacrificed a lot to move across the country (to Denver) to pursue the lifestyle I thought was best for me. I was dead broke, and it sucked for a while, but ultimately, it was well worth the challenges and I feel like I got an extended youthfulness by doing that.

    Best of luck to you…every time I have an injury, it renews my appreciation for trying my best to stay healthy.

  • FWIW - I’m in my mid-50s and still feel basically the same as I did in my late 20s / early-30s. All of these aging memes strike me as odd and/or maybe people who haven’t been kind to their bodies. I sleep like a rock on a normal bed, with one pillow, and wake up rested with no pain and get out of bed and do normal stuff just fine. Weird, huh?

  • When you said video game you brought to mind a broader context for me. We often associate “a name” (musician, CEO, comedian, etc.) with a brand. But when you truly think of the number of people and entire industry involved in producing said art, it becomes a somewhat different question. Not necessarily easier to answer, and I really like your health bar analogy. I think to some extent it depends on what you personally are getting out of your interaction with the product.

    Always a fascinating philosophical question to ponder.

  • Never having done a hunger strike myself, I thought the following was interesting. It sounds like there’s kind of a medical protocol to it and I wonder what measures are taken when it’s deemed “dangerous.” Under these conditions I’m guessing some folks could last physically (no judgement on the mental toughness it takes!) for quite some time:

    “The students have been drinking water with electrolytes and having their vitals tested twice a day.”
