  • I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but any publicly traded company no longer needs to post a profit. Boomers are retiring and 401ks ensure that these companies will make money purely from "value potential". Maybe in 20 or so years as the demographics change this will be different, but this is how I see it going down today.

If all of America collectively decided not to purchase from publicly traded companies, and instead only bought from small local companies for just one month. I doubt it would even register on a YTD stock price chart. It would need to be a true philosophical change in how we consume products, and it would have to last for longer than a month to be effective. On top of that, only privileged households will realistically be able to "choose" not to buy consumer goods.

I think we should all buy less and be more mindful of where our money goes. I think we should buy locally and promote businesses that you agree with on levels beyond the value of the good or services they offer as often as possible. However, I don't think we can effectively protest this way unless it was a true lifestyle change for a large portion of the country.

  • I certainly would rather focus on making money for myself then a company if those are my two choices during work hours.

But really, I'd rather be farming and playing with my daughter.

  • I can't wait for the day that I can just send my ai digital twin to the meeting to talk to all the other ais and just focus on building my resume so I can jump to a better paying job where I don't have to actually do anything because companies don't need to make profit anymore just stock growth.

  • If you block data sources because you fear misinformation, then you also can't discuss the misinformation/propaganda you disprove of. If you don't allow that information to be posted, it is still being read by many many people that now have less chances of being informed about it being misinformation.

I don't think limiting information is ever a good solution

Also, I agree with your reply on beehaw.

You can post third party source that discuess the orginal article and that way you can gurantee accessibility and almost full info.

  • You know, when FBI officials testified before the Church Committee they said, “At one point we had fifteen thousand people on the Security Index.” Expressing it like that you get the feeling that at one point we had as many as fifteen thousand. But that’s like saying that when you’re filling up Soldier Field for a football game, at some point you have fifteen thousand in the stadium. But wait a few minutes and you’ve got several thousand more. This is the way the FBI gives the information to Congress, and Congress doesn’t know what the hell they’re saying. They think: “Well, at some point that’s the maximum that we had,” which is not true. At some point we had fifteen thousand—leading up to a hundred thousand.

    • Red Scare (Griffin Fariello)
  • Enough to find and overcome issues with how you use it.

If you quit a distro before you run into an issue then that's not very helpful when it comes time to make a choice

If you aren't able to overcome and fix an issue that you run into while using the computer the way you would normally, then your probably not learning much about Linux.

My recommendation is to go for at least a minor kernel upgrade.

If all you want to do is test out distros before you commit to an install, then check out https://distrosea.com/

  • A Mossberg 500 is less than the cost of a midrange smart phone, about $500 new. You can deck it out like with that Streamlight TL Racker flashlight pictured and other accessories too for like another $200-300 and it would still be cheaper than an iphone.

  • Luckily, Americans see right through this grift. An AP-NORC poll found that 52% of Americans have an unfavorable view of Musk — and less than a third of Americans approve of DOGE. Americans don’t want an unelected and unaccountable billionaire dictating what working families can and cannot afford. If Musk is going to continue running the government like one of his failed businesses, perhaps someone should force his “resignation” too.

Remind me after social security and Medicare are cut how helpful this poll was.

  • Anything is possible if you believe.

You could underglaze or varnish them when leather-hard and then interlock the handles before mounting to the mug.

You could also probably just use regular glazes and clear coat by applying with a paintbrush and patience rather than dipping them in the glaze.
