  • You also run into different sets of tools that define an IDE. And especially with language server protocols giving almost any text editor access to the only things that were ever strictly the domain of IDEs, I think it's safe to say we live in a golden age of being able to write things with as much or as little assistance as you want

  • Their main mistake was never trying to make their walled garden not suck ass. I would try to install things from the windows store just to see about it back when I was running windows and it took an infernally long time to open the store, search for an app, and then install that app.

  • Were having radically different experiences. Firefox consumes way less power than chrome on all my machines

  • The problem is other distros exist that do everything Ubuntu does right without all the things Ubuntu does wrong

  • We started there of course. The subtlety has far more to do with needing to get clever than with us being clever. Eventually it got to the point where I had to write a python script to reinstall all our .corn antics back on every school machine because the school took to resetting all accessibility dictionaries every night

  • Yeah I'm not enjoying watching the collapse of a lifelong friendship in public view. Like I really feel for Kyle. He made one joke and its collapsing his career all around him. And you can say that that's a case of play stupid games, win stupid prizes, but losing his friend like this didn't have to be part of the deal. Even if Jack Black did or didn't agree with Kyle and this was all about their personal safety, there's still ways for this to be handled where it's not Jack Black personally throwing Kyle Gass under the bus. They could even make a deal with the devil and have Ticketmaster be the bad guys (that's allegedly why they get paid so much)

  • Especially since when was the last time you got a phone that impressed you? Like phones haven't been getting better they've been getting more gimmicky

  • Ah the olden days of using windows accessibility features to replace ".com" with ".corn"

  • Phones don't use an IBM-PC architecture. You'd need a phone based on an architecture phones aren't usually based on or You'd need to re-engineer UEFI to work for an architecture it wasn't designed for

  • I highly encourage everyone to buy their pixel phones for grapheneos secondhand. there's enough pixel fanbois out there you should be able to deprive any corporation of the money of your sale by buying a like new condition last generation pixel (Like an 8 now that the 8a and 9 are out)

  • You're my favorite person of the day

  • Pepsi is literally no better. They do all the same shit and are in bed with Putin

  • Is there a more reliable to find the right sensor watch than searching "sensor watch?"

  • The rest of us computer engineers should show solidarity by also unionizing. We're stronger together

  • Most of who got hit though was people who contracted with crowd strike directly though. Its not like Microsoft pushed crowdstrike onto people.

  • I've seen a weird number of people blaming Microsoft for this today, and an even weirder number of people making fun of people saying this isn't on Microsoft

  • Zsh has more features and customization options than bash. Fish has a ton of convenience features at the cost of POSIX compatibility (which many view as a good thing)

  • Interesting! I assume then that dslul was the original developer. Weird I wasn't able to turn up anything at all... Well... Not that weird given that internet search is broken

  • I like Org Mode, but that's sort of… Begrudgingly. I like any FOSS notes app better than any closed source notes app. That's not even me having strong feeling about FOSS (which I do), it's more about… I am very picky about note apps. Org Mode (with org-roam) does the best job of getting out of my way and letting me write and resurface notes.
