Oh yeah, when was the last time your country had a violent popular uprising that deposed a highly militarized government AND managed to build an effective democracy in the aftermath?

It's not the same outcome though. This one is pretty obvious. If you block the bill, government is stopped, can't do anything. If you allow the bill, government gets more power to keep doing bad things. Doing nothing > doing bad things.

Schumer is a Democratic Senator. On lemmy, you've got some people calling Republicans fascist, and another group calling Democrats fascist. The Republicans did a sig heil during Trump's inauguration, so I'll let you figure out which one is fascist.

Because Republicans exist, fundamentally as a party, to break government. And it's far far easier to break something than to improve it.

If doing the right thing is giving you an ulcer, maybe you ARE voting for the wrong party. MAGA might suit you better.

Dems win a scintilla of power, do nothing

Because you can't build things, you can't fix things, you can't make positive progress, with a scintilla of power. You can often BREAK things if you have a slim majority, because that's easier than building things.

The two major things Democrats have brought us in the last 20 years have been Obamacare, which happened during the two months of actual control Democrats had, and the IRA, which was a masterful bit of politics that Biden and Democrats managed to pull off despite not having a supermajority.

Because they haven't actually won in a long ass time. Aside from the few months in 2012 that gave us the ACA, it's been nothing but ties or Republican wins since the Bill Clinton days.

If we do vote for them, we lose.

Paternity leave helps employers attract talent; in all other ways it does not help them at all.

That's just capitalism plus a strong regulatory government, which is how all Western governments are supposed to work too. It's fairly easy to imagine a future PRC where greedy capitalist interests have infiltrated the government over the years and crippled it like many Western ones. It's just instead of manipulating people via democracy, they work backroom deals within the CCP to get people amenable to their interests into positions of power.

Essentially, the only successful checks we've found to capitalism is either a strong State or a strong Church, or both. I think we can all agree that organized religious rule is even less preferable than a capitalist oligopoly, which leaves having a strong government to balance capitalist tendencies.

I liked the overall cyberpunk theme and setting, and the idea that all electronic comms was so heavily monitored that people regressed to couriers was intriguing. The big evil sinister plot being "they're training cops to parkour" was silly tho. That reveal was quite a letdown. And it was nicely punctuated by my fights with the evil ninja parkour cops mainly being me grabbing a gun from a regular cop and dusting em with no effort.

So fucking good.

I would have liked some combat element, but the suits in charge of the game were clearly pushing the "main character is ridiculously overpowered" thing, like the first time you have to fight, it's you vs 5 or 6 cops armed with guns and you wipe the floor with them. It's silly. You're a courier, you can run fast and jump and you're fearless, but you can't take out 5 cops on your own lol. It's not a Marvel movie and you're not Black Widow.

Combat against armed opponents should be a terrifying, adrenaline-pumping thing where your main aim is to gtfo as fast as possible because if a bullet hits you you're dead. If you see a cop you should be thinking "oh shit fuck fuck shit" not "oooh I can take his gun".
