Although im part of the Linux crowd, if you’re tired of reapplying debloat scripts every update, you could get the W10 IoT LTSC edition that only has security patches with no updates. You will have to pirate it though.
Homelabs will always be better maintained. In most cases it’s a one man show and the documentation can be slight hints that will help you remember the process when you need it.
Most of the documentation for my homelab server is a README file in the folder next to the docker compose. At work I’m forced to write a lengthy explanation as to why things are the way they are in Confluence.
I remember researching the topic a while back. SimpleMDM seems to do it, but it requires paying Apple $300 a year. Luckily, Mosyle allows up to 30 devices for free.
I’ve been hanging a version back for a while now. Although my instance isn’t public, it’s ridiculous how many CVEs I have dodged by not updating. SolarWinds all over again.
I care about the laptops. I care about them a lot. People return them in a shit state, I clean them up take care of them and then advocate to donate them to schools in the area.
When the day will come, and once I pay for something I have the ability to just hit download and it will fetch an .mkv/.mp4 from a CDN, that’s when I’ll pay for it. Sadly that day isn’t even remotely close, so torrenting it is. Oh and fuck you WideVine.
You’re in for a ride.
