  • If they're considering optical media, typical BD-R, while viable, may not be be the best choice. BD-R M-Discs would probably be a better choice for backups. Especially if they're planning on needing access to the data over a period of decades, which would be potentially useful for familiy photos/videos and critical documents.

They are more expensive, as is the drive needed for them, but not by enough to be out of reach or even unreasonable given the additional durability of the discs.

  • The article mentions that previously they used pig cadavers with dyes and specially marked tissues to guide the robot. While it doesn't specify exactly what the "lifelike patient" is, to me the article reads like they're still using a pig cadaver just without those aids.

  • I usually just put my entire library from my Plex server on shuffle and listen to whatever comes up. Which is usually a lot of nu-metal, alt-rock, folk music, j-pop, rap, and j-rock.

Sometimes though I'll have something specific I want to listen to, recently that's been a lot of Colm R. McGuinness (over on YouTube) specifically his WH40K songs, but also all of his other stuff. He makes some great music and I'd recommend checking him out.

  • Not currently medicated for ADHD (though I am diagnosed), but I take modafinil for a shift-work related sleep disorder. It also helps with the ADHD. On the days when I take it, I find myself able to focus and get things done.

During high school and my early twenties i was on Adderall XR and IR. That was much more effective and the only reason I'm not still doing that is because my job has travel requirement to countries where those medications and similar are illegal.

It's one reason among a few that I'm currently looking for a new job.

  • Those 14 are the least populated states. However, with the exception of Wyoming, Vermont, Alaska, and the Dakotas all of them have populations over 1 Million. Wyoming, the least populous state, has a population of 590,000.

    I wouldn't exactly call that "barely 100,000."

  • Sounds great. Just make sure it also gets the genes for strong hip ligaments. And the dopey friend genes that all labradors tend to have.

And then breed it to look like a polar bear sized grey wolf.

  • There is no clear definition of what constitutes a moon other than it being a body that orbits another body that orbits the parent star.

There are some astronomers who say the dividing line between a moon-planet/dwarf planet/asteroid system and binary (or more) planet/dwarf planet/asteroid system is whether or not the barycenter of the orbits is within one of the bodies or not.

And fun fact: if that definition gained acceptance, it would mean that the Pluto-Charon system would go from a dwarf planet-moon system to a binary dwarf planet system. Charon could get a promotion.

  • Speaking from personal experience, 9F won't kill you, at least not quickly, and it's pretty easy to put on enough clothes that you can spend entire work days outside being comfortably warm. I used to work outdoors regularly in Alaskan winters and except for days where it got down to around -20F I was usually able to keep warm just by having proper attire.

You can't really do that at 100F. Sure, it probably won't kill you if you stay hydrated, but it will never be comfortable.

  • Unpopular Opinion @lemmy.world

Gamers deciding to accept an internet connection as mandatory in order to play a game (any game) is the root of all that is wrong with the gaming industry.
