  • Well the very act of shooting someone in the head twice, burning their home down, and stealing their car is cruel and unusual punishment.

Despite what everyone in the comments seems to think you're not legally protected from going John Wick on someone regardless of how much they've wronged you or if the system failed you.

  • You don't get a license to kill just because the justice system failed you. I'm loving how everyone is screaming about how bad the justice system is with this case yet they think a bunch of pissed off ppl thirsty for revenge is a somehow the more measured and practical solution.

What if after she set the house on fire it burned down the whole block? What if the guy had a victim in the house with him when it happened? Another person pointed out she could've destroyed evidence from other victims. Two wrongs don't make a right

  • While your point is ultimately right you're telling ppl to be diplomatic about an ongoing genocide that is being funded with their tax money.

It's like expecting black ppl to always be calm and collected with police while being profiled. I'm suppose to be angry

  • On the other hand, the "faith groups" are probably just upset that they are loosing their captive audience for evangelism.

Who the hell cares? If it keeps ppl out of revolving door of prison while living happy and productive lives that's all that matter

  • arguably he presented an ongoing threat as long as he was free

Nahhh man. That's like instead of a filing a restraining order for your abuser you just go out and kill them. Ultimately the cops should've had him locked up with no bail but their incompetence created this situation.

That being said we as a society can't just move to mob justice when the system fails. She should get a mix of jail time and counciling. You don't get to kill someone just because they abused you. That's revenge not justice

  • So you believe that a writer can somehow completely remove their opinions, morals, and political leanings from their writing? I mean we literally go through books in high school English and pick a part their themes in relation to their lives, beliefs, etc.

But I'm sure Lovecraft kept his fear of foreigners and contempt for minorities out of his writings tho

  • But that nuance exists in the books, there are family ties that cut across faction allegiances, double agents, traitors, misunderstood people, ambiguous characters

So there's nuance in everything but the plot?

So there is a grounded sense of black and white, unless you consider elitism, classism, racism and gratuitous violence to subjugate others as something that can be seen in a good light, somehow.

Theres nothing grounded about magic Hitler. Hitler himself and the rise of nazi German had more nuance other than they were all just _pure evvviiiillll _. Works of fiction that have these black and white struggles between the knight in shining armor and the devil incarnate who wants to destroy the world lack depth. It's easy to make yourself the good guys in Harry Potter when all you have to do is not be the devil. It's like the old school Disney formula of pretty white and charming is good. Ugly, vaguely ethnic, and awkward is bad.

I'm not going out in cloaks and masks killing minorities so I can't be the bad guy. Making it harder for them to vote is no big deal. The death eaters go around killing unwarranted. There's no way they're pro-life like me. Clearly they'd love abortions! The Trans community is trying to corrupt and covert our kids just like voldemort! It's literally that easy

  • Not to shit on one of your favorite works of fiction but this is exactly why it's a book for kids/teenagers. There are VERY FEW cases were the bad vs good is so black and white. Life is made up of shades of grey and as I've gotten older I've lost respect for writing that paints such a simple view of right and wrong. Without nuance either side can look at themselves as the good guy and the other as pure evil.

  • While I agree the FDA has a history of caving to outside business interests.

Otherwise you get spammed with a million treatments from your doctor whose payed off by pharmaceuticals to sell treatments even if they don’t work.

    That already happens.

  • In my travels across Europe most countries give a massive middle finger to the disabled. I hear the argument in preserving old building and architecture but you're essentially walling off an entire sedition of ppl from living normally. As an American living in Germany I'd have a tough time choosing between German cheap Healthcare vs American handicap friendly infrastructure if I was disabled
