  • I use yubikey everywhere it's available for me. Initially, the first few websites in the early years were challenging. I think a lot of devs were still trying to figure out the workflow.

But today, it's usually as simple, or simpler, than TOTP.

So it might be worth trying again. I'd use a YubiKey 4 or higher if you can. If you have an older one, you may want to upgrade to take advantage of the newer technology like NFC and Bluetooth if you're into that.

I just wish YubiKey could store more than like 30 TOTP tokens.

  • Yes but this wasn't a data breach. This was a data stuffing incident, meaning they took someone else's data dump and tried their email and credentials here.

    • never use the same username and password in two or more places
    • always use MFA, a hard token if you can like a yubikey
  • 100%

I used to do MDM at my last company. The post here is very misinformed on how it works.

All companies can do is wipe your phone and configure settings. They cannot read what's on the phone, except for the stuff in the work profile and even then it's limited.

I have a corporate phone with a personal and work profile set up and have no issues browsing porn. That's how confident I am.

The only risk is if you're on a regular cellular network, your company could ask the mobile network to send the sites you visit. But if you're VPNing or on your home wifi, that won't tell them much.

  • Which, by itself, is fine. But their contributions to open source are very one-handed and pale in comparison to how much they benefit out of it.

Hell, my company is no different. They allocate one day out of the year as "open source day" where devs can contribute back to open source projects on company time. But it must be something we already use.

No personal development. No non-essential libraries.

We make literally millions off of these libraries and we don't even contribute monetarily.

If these companies gave even 0.01% of their revenue to these essential libraries, they'd never even have to ask for money.

  • That's the irony of all of this. I too would donate to a project that was actively trying to do this, even donate to their legal fund. I'd probably pay more than the subscription!

These asshole companies just don't realize that a determined developer and engineer will move heaven and earth to make sure that their freedoms (as in speech) aren't restricted.

I don't care if it's illegal. It's my fucking car. Once you sell it to me, it ceases to be your property. You leave $100 bill in the glove compartment before you sell it to me? Well it's mine now.

You leave software on my car's computer? Welp, it's mine now.

  • They intentionally didn't roll the subscription into the sale price. That's the goal. They want that sweet, predictable, monthly income that they sell their investors on.

They also figured that if you've found your car, you're less likely to walk away for what is essentially a fraction of the car's price.

I honestly hope the next car I buy has shit like this. Because boy am I going to make it my mission to jailbreak it and release my code open source.

  • Is it just me or is every new distro just a base with a different DE? I started to notice this a few years back but not sure if it was my imagination or something developers starting doing because it was easier to ship the DE as "the OS" than it was to instruct users on how to switch to their DE.

  • Their goal is power.

Being Christian, white, straight, and/or male is just a means to an end.

If they have to collectively suck the cocks of a bunch of gay guys if it will give them power, they'll do it and then execute them saying they were tricked.

  • There is a saying: Democrats fall in love and Republicans fall in line.

I'm convinced that the majority of the Republican party are held hostage by a disproportionately influential alt-right voting bloc. The alt-right is pretty much about 5-10% of the party but because they are loud and violent, they get 90% of the coverage.

Republican candidates, however, know that Republicans will vote Republican no matter what so they cater their message to the alt right, knowing that come the general election, even the most liberal Republican will still vote Republican.

The sad, sad thing is....Democrats are now there too. Liberals and democracy loving Americans have to vote Democrat. But the Democrats have a different problem. Because their voting bloc is more diverse, it's harder to have a coalition. Many Democrats have to cater to moderates, and not progressives, in order to get the majority to vote. Not only that, but many moderates value "bipartisanship" whereas Republicans don't and the Republicans know that. It's why we get shit deals on bills and Republicans consistently going back on their word.

  • If I had to guess, a period show or movie likely doesn't have smoking in it unless it's essential to the plot because of the health risks as well as the pain of editing it in post. I know that there are herbal cigarettes that actors can smoke that are not as risky but unless it's crucial to the shot, I can see directors just not even thinking of it.

    Chekhov's cigarette if you will.
