  • The last safe guard is the second amendment.

That's something to discuss when we're way closer to 100%, authoritanism, and not 0%.

I hope enough liberals will realise that in time.

You realize there are liberals that own guns, right?

  • What if Elon has already bought them all? It doesn’t take much for a jizzilionaire like him

If we're going to "what if" why stop there? Why don't we have Elon kidnapping them and implanting mind control devices in each of their heads. A person with those kind of resources and technology could do such a thing. /s

If I was to take your point seriously, I would suggest the courts would have something to say about that, from lawsuits filed by civilians.

The hyperbole really has to stop. You don't go from a 0% authoritarianism to 100% in one day/step. Its a process, and we are not there yet (though I do definitely agree we're starting to lean in that direction).

  • Not having seen what you posted, and assuming there's not purposeful censorship involved, I can only offer this bit of advice.

How you say a thing matters as much as what thing you are saying.

  • This will continue (the whole of America suffering) until someone wrangles in Trump…

When Republican Senators profits or jobs become at risk, because of what Trump's doing, then you'll see some wrangling done.

  • I'm a huge fan of Lemmy’s public mod logs.

I am as well, truly. Sometimes it's even just entertaining to go read those logs for a bit, to see how people are, and what gets them or their comments banned.

If anything my problem with Lemmy is an under/lack of moderation, but that's neither here or there for this discussion.

  • Because the only safeguard I’m aware of is impeachment and removal, which requires both chambers of Congress to act against Trump and I just don’t believe that’s going to happen while Republicans control both chambers and impeachment certainly isn’t going to “kick in” as if it’s some automatic process.

I believe you're incorrect, I believe Congress at some point will act, and that's what I was speaking of. Even a Republican lead one.

You're seeing some split by Republicans, objecting to how Zelensky was treated yesterday at the White House, and up to now you hadn't seen any division whatsoever.

At some point they'll act, if it got to that point.

So I’m genuinely curious about what’s got you so optimistic

Oh I'm definately not optimistic, it's going to be a long three years and tenish months, that's for sure.

I'm just not hyperbolic about it.

  • I’m one drop in the wave, and have no search for authority over others.

I'm not accusing you of trying to gain power over others. I'm accusing you of volunteering others to risk their lives for a cause, while you sit behind your keyboard.

    So, what do you think?

Creating is harder to do than destroying, so I tend to push back when someone advocates for destroying something, versus preserving what's already been created.

What some people so easily opine as something that should be done first and foremost, is something I would say should only be done last, after all other options have been tried.

BTW, I’ve already been in the front of those waves. I got suck up lots of tears gas, and more than one truncheon strike…

Normally I would respond to something like this with a 'citation required' reply, but I understand one not wanting to dox themself online, so I won't do so.

Having said that, if you are being truthful, then I would expect you to be advocating straightforwardly and more forcefully for what you want, and be willing to lead it, and not just suggest others do it in your stead, which is what your initial comment appeared to be doing (with my apologies if that's incorrect, but that is the impression that I got).

  • and we shouldn’t allow this presidency to continue.

There are legal safeguards for that built-in.

If you're not just being hyperbolic (or astroturfing for anarchy), and there is some truth to what you're saying, at some point those safe guards will kick in.

And just because they haven't kicked in yet doesn't mean they won't kick in later.

  • Have you tried checking on another computer without having logged in the Reddit first, to see if the comments are actually there or not?

Also, have you tried checking via one of the third party websites that check for shadow banning?

  • My understanding is that mods can silently remove content from their subreddits, but it will still show up in your comment-history.

That's actually very unethical, no matter where it's done.

You should either let someone's effort be seen, or prevent them from making the effort in the first place.

But having them waste their time by doing the effort, and then having it not be seen, in essence fooling them, is very unethical, and intellectually dishonest.

  • Elaborate? Your comment seems nonsensical?

  • From the article...

Previous American presidents have had plenty of tense exchanges with allies, but often in private and never like this.

What made this one different was not just that it unfolded with cameras rolling, but that it featured an American president siding with an autocratic and longtime adversary, Russia, against a nascent democracy that has struggled for years to break away from Moscow’s orbit and join the NATO alliance of Western democracies.

  • every country in the world will rightly want to have their own nuclear weapons now. You just know that today is going to be mentioned in the history books as the beginning of widespread nuclear proliferation

I'm honestly surprised other countries didn't start proliferating after the first time Ukraine was invaded by Russia, years ago.

That's one hell of an object lesson for any country to have learned, watching that happen.

For today, if nothing else, the lesson was learned, if you already have nukes, don't give them up for promises of protection.

  • Yeah so is the option to inform you, you are bothering people.

I can only repeat, you're not telling me anything I have an already heard, and disagree with.

One can argue why a single sentence, in a smaller size font, would be bothering to someone, especially in a forum where text is used to express opinions.

One can also argue why Lemmy.World has the features of formatting your text, if they would be bothersome to people.

But you truly are free to block me, so you don't have to worry about it anymore. I would like to think my content is entertaining and worth reading, and something you would miss, but the choice is ultimately yours, either way.

But you're not allowed to dictate to me what I can and cannot put in my comments, or how I license my content.
