  • I was scrolling down to see if anyone said this, since it's been the case for me so far. I have to say lately I've seen a raise in unfriendliness (not referring towards me, but in general), but I suppose it's inevitable.

I'm still really happy with how people interact with me and with each other, and I haven't felt that on Reddit for a while (am referring to both pre APIcalypse and after, though I now visit Reddit rarely)

  • This is tragic.

While the Wikipedia page lists food poisonings from sea turtles as rare, it still feels like a Russian Roulette kind of meal.

Would you eat something knowing that there is a nonzero chance it might kill you (as in really off you, not just give you a bad night at the bathroom)?

I suppose the answer is a lot of people would, since the article itself mentioned another recent poisoning.

It reminds me of the blowfish which is also lethally poisonous if not handled by someone who's certified to do so.

I suppose everything in life has a risk and I've done my share of reckless things, but rolling the dice on food never appealed to me.

    Edit: fixed grammar

  • Well, I would like to think that this will get some more Redditors to become Lemmings, but I don't have high hopes. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a significant migration during the APIcalypse, so I don't see that happening now.

  • Off topic but related: you guys just broke the whole super hero concept for me. Now I can't go back to reading comics or watching movies ignoring all of these things. I suppose I am happy to be my normal me (though perhaps super strength isn't so bad)!

  • You're right about Sci-Hub because of their Indian lawsuit which is very important to them, but I didn't know that Anna's Archive was a repository of scientific journals. Is it? I know Library Genesis (or LibGen) has a lot of scientific textbooks, but I didn't know it had papers. Does it?

Anyhow, Anna's Archive and LibGen are super awesome too!

  • This link has been posted and discussed on Reddit too.

Of course, we shouldn't care about what people on Reddit think (and I noticed this post by chance since I log on there very rarely now), but some users in the thread genuinely ask about joining Lemmy and so I guess it's useful to know about possible obstacles to trying it that they may perceive.

  • Chill out RobotZap1000 (though, I suppose your alias suggests you're a fierce robot punishing earthlings 😄)!

I was just making a joke about the fact that normally we're constantly receiving feedback to do/not do so something and we're never entirely free to decide on our own

  • I haven't watched the video, but...

    (1) If I watch it, it's on YouTube (a form of social media) so I'll be influenced and manipulated.

    (2) If I don't watch it, it's because I've read its title on Lemmy (another form of social media), so I'll have been influenced and manipulated anyway.

Bottom line: being influenced and manipulated is everyone's destiny, yay!

  • I don't mean to defend him at all (in fact, I do eat cereal, but it's local store brands and not Kellogg's), but isn't it normal for a person selling a product to tell people to buy its products?

At the same time, I agree it's terrible advice he's giving!!!

  • Sorry, I don't work in economics so I don't follow this (but it looks like a great analysis for someone who doesn't understand it!).

Do all these things mean Reddit IPO is likely to tank (though one never knows)?

I'd like Spez to pay for all he's done to 3rd party apps and driving mods (and us users) away, but in the end I'm afraid it's only going to be regular employees to feel the pinch and Spez just cashing out...

Also, Reddit has a ton of users and some other article these days said they're going to sell everything to AI services that are going to train themselves on Reddit for a lot of dollars. Would this be enough to keep them afloat?

  • I don't mean to be argumentative, but I want to genuinely understand your comparison: Scottish English and American English are the exact same language (sure there are differences that can be assimilated to regionalisms), but Spanish and Portuguese are two different languages (they come from the same root ane grammar is similar, but not the same, the vocabulary is generally different (though similar sounding)).

When you compare Scottish English and American English, I tend to see a relationship more similar to Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese from Portugal.

    Cheers, mate!
