You make excellent points. I think the key difference for me when I got the NAS was that I wasn't replacing an existing system. That and I actually enjoy playing with storage and networking, so I'm able to cover most of those bases you mentioned myself.

For the power issues, you may want to look into getting a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for anything you want to stay powered. Larger ones can get pretty expensive, but you can usually find some smaller ones for a decent price that I think would be fine for small business use. I've used and had good experience with UPSs made by APC.

It has more than I need for now. Isn't that effectively unlimited? I could definitely see myself filling it up eventually as my media library grows, though.

A NAS really isn't that much of a hassle once you get it up and running. I've got a Synology DS918+ and love it. Although I'm sure you'd want something bigger (and newer) for supporting a small business.

There's a 4 hour heat cycle it has to go through as part of the cleaning. In addition, the machines are apparently very temperamental and throw errors a lot, but the error codes are (arguably intentionally) obscure so typical employees just aren't going to know what's wrong with it. Also machine servicing is done exclusively by the machine manufacturer, so if any work needs to be done to it they've gotta schedule a tech call-out.

Much like movies and tv shows, I've just started downloading my music again and putting it in Plex. I stream it to any device that I can put Plex/Plexamp on (or connect my phone to). Not great for music discovery, of course, since it's only playing music you've added to your library.

Other replies pretty much covered it, but yeah, I have a Nest thermostat that I enrolled in Evergy's rush hour program that lets them adjust the thermostat during peak usage times. I can set it back lower if I want, but I then lose out on incentives (credit/discount on my bill). The only times I've gotten those rush hour notifications, though, have been on the hottest days where it's so warm in my apartment that, even when they raise the thermostat, my AC still runs anyway. I'm also on the third floor with a few westward facing windows, so I'm sure the program works better for others.

I'm considering not paying as long as they're doing the "ease you back into it" stuff like not reporting to credit agencies or garnishing wages. Seems essentially like a forbearance without the interest freeze. It really just depends on what my new payments end up being.
