  • Lot of good games coming out in 2024. Really excited for Hades II. Looking forward to P3R and Metaphor. Cautiously optimistic about Avowed. It's a shame we're not getting a third Pillars game, but at least Obsidian is doing something with the setting.

  • I think the craziest thing for me, if I'm reading this right, is that the pack includes all ships released and concepted. So you're paying for ships that aren't even in the game yet? You just have concept art and the promise that they might be in the game?

  • Honestly, given everything the game went through it's a surprise it turned out as good as it did. It's interesting how many of the story beats and ideas from the old version ended up in the released game, although in a different context. Still, it's a shame the project got taken away from Sony London on such short notice. Watching someone else rework the project you'd been working on and get all the praise for it has to sting.

  • I've already seen them suggested, but I want to throw out another recommendation for Signalis and Lunacid . Signalis is a sci-fi horror game that takes heavy inspiration from the old Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. Like Resident Evil you have limited ammo, inventory, and points where you can save. Like Silent Hill you have a story that starts out fairly straightforward and then gets weirder as things start to unravel around you. I'm not really a survival horror fan and it still managed to keep me hooked to the end.

Lunacid is a first-first person dungeon crawler that is heavily inspired by pre-Dark Souls Fromsoft series like King's Field and Shadow Tower. That's really all the game sets out to be and it absolutely nails it. The combat can be a bit repetitive, unless you invest in magic which I found to be incredibly fun and versatile, but I feel like the atmosphere more than makes up for it. It also has a ton of secrets and plenty of those ah-ha moments where you open up a shortcut or figure out how one area connects to the others.

  • I mean, I am going to miss the regular videos, but I'm glad he's getting to step away on his own terms. So many youtubers burn out, stop uploading, and then just disappear. Or they turn into a brand that they have to manage instead of creating what they want to. Not many get to fly off into the sunset under a helicopter, so that's nice. Plus, he's not stepping away from creating stuff entirely so there's that.

  • Glad to see more articles pointing out how horrible this year was for the people who actually make the games. Unfortunately it's hard to see things getting better, especially with video game unions still such a new phenomena.

  • Shame. I remembered the name from Banner Saga, but I was surprised to find out that they also published Pillars of Eternity 2. They had an interesting catalog of games. Still, telling everyone they're being let go right before they leave for Christmas is just twisting the knife isn't it? Then again I guess there isn't really a good time to tell someone they're fired.

  • Honestly, I could see a new Soul Reaver game being a Souls-like if anyone was actually serious about resurrecting the franchise. I mean, between the ruined world and characters who can come back from death you could definitely market it as "Dark Souls, but vampires" towards newcomers. Shame the rights are with Embracer, meaning we aren't likely to ever get a new entry unless someone buys it off them.

  • Huh. I knew the game wasn't a runaway success but I'm surprised that it barely turned a profit. I suppose it makes sense why they pivoted to doing Marvel games. At least we know from the leaks that they haven't given up on doing new and original IPs.

  • Glad to see this get preserved somewhere. It's always a shame when someone pours a lot of time and passion into a project like this only for it to get wiped from the internet once they get the cease-and-desist.

  • Embracer is just trying to ruin as many Christmases as possible, aren't they? By the time this is over Embracer might be able to match EA for number of studios they've bought and shut down. Hopefully those impacted land on their feet, but given the state of the industry I'm skeptical.

  • All valid points and it is perhaps for the best that E3 just ended rather than continuing on as a shadow of its former self. Still, I hope something emerges that fills the void E3 left behind, even if I don't think that is likely. Summer Games Fest is fine, but it's still a far cry from what E3 used to be and all the scattered streams and announcements don't really capture that concentrated excitement you had back when E3 was at its peak.

  • Game looks cool, but I always have mixed feelings about articles like this. On the one hand it helps raise awareness about the game to the people who want to play it, but it also helps raise awareness about the game to the people who are going to send the cease-and-desist letter.
