  • I normally do a race summary but in truth I don't think there is enough material today to spew out my customary wall of text. The forced two-stop shook things up as well as it could - which is to say "not a lot", as the track still limits what is physically possible.

There were some moments of strategy and some moments of "Monaco". Ferrari's pitwall actually were on it again, which is nice to see. Hamilton overcutting and gaining two positions ended up being one of the only moments of "action" the whole race. As usual around here the overcut is where you want to be, not the undercut. As demonstrated succinctly by Aston and Alonso, though it wouldn't have mattered in the end what with his engine giving out. This man must have been cursed because the amount of bad luck he's getting is something else.

Mercedes has to be singled out for strategy as well, as their no fucks given approach had me scratching my head. Maybe they were just so off the pace they didn't even bother, but I have legitimately no idea what they were attempting to do this race.

Racing Bulls and Williams backing up the field with one car to give the other a free pitstop ended up being the best way to deal with the race, which is sort of farcical yes. I do wonder why more teams didn't attempt it?

Always hard to pick a driver of the day at Monaco, in my opinion. I would have been tempted to give it to Bortoleto for his overtake at the hairpin if he didn't follow it up by going into the wall. Antonelli also performed an actual overtake to take the position back, but it of course was aided by the overtakรฉe hitting the wall.

Hadjar had a great finish, but it was delivered by his qualy and his teammates assistance giving him free pitstops. He didn't put a foot wrong, I suppose.

Did anyone really impress this race?

EDIT: God damn I talk a lot, I managed a wall of text after all!

  • Albon backing up the field now to give a free pitstop to Sainz. Good stuff by Williams.

  • DNF for Alonso now, because why not. He is so fucking unlucky man. Just pure pain. Even though they screwed him on strategy he was on for some decent points.

  • Beautiful teamwork by Racing Bulls to secure what looks like an amazing finish for Hadjar. Very puzzling no other team tried to do the same. McLaren especially should have used Piastri to do the same for Norris, surely? But I guess failing attempting an undercut on a track where the undercut rarely works is also an appealing strategy...

  • Overcutting remains powerful at Monaco, who ever could have predicted that? Great by Ferrari to gain two positions for Hamilton.

  • Looked like his breaks gave out.

  • Great overtake by Kimi on him too though.

  • 2023 was all wholesome all the time, basically. Even when the team fucked him in Monaco.

  • Just 2 stops. Most people will be using MMH in some order, I imagine.

  • Gonna be a strange race with the forced 2-stop, lots of opportunity to fuck up strategy. Who knows what'll happen.

  • The new C6 tyre was a fun challenge to watch the drivers figure out. Monaco qualy just never disappoints. You can't seriously watch those final hot laps in Q3 and claim Monaco should leave the calendar.

  • Been a while since Norris looked that good, wow! Championship back on?

  • I was confused at first because I thought they'd spent literal billions building the best factory and wind tunnel on the grid, but apparently they forgot something:

Newey said: "It's fair to say that some of our tools are weak. Particularly the driver-in-the-loop simulator needs a lot of work because it's not correlating at all at the moment, which is a fundamental research tool."

  • It is definitely in my Top 10 games of all time. I haven't settled on a final placement yet. It's a beautiful piece of videogames-as-art, the story and the characters are well written and acted and the plot itself is very compelling. The world building is interesting and engrossing and the music boasts one of the best Video Game OSTs of all time, without a doubt.

There are some minor niggles, sure. It's not literally perfect. It's unfortunate that you can easily make yourself so overpowered you miss cutscenes in the final fight if you don't consciously gimp yourself.

But other than that, none of the minor niggles really detract from the impact of the core experience, which is super super strong.

  • The new forced 2-stop might lead to something funky, we'll see. Odds on him pitting on lap 2?

  • I was thinking more in regards to questions of "why is [bad thing] allowed to be [bad in this manner]?"

    But you're right.
