  • They certainly are right-wingers when the support candidates and policies that are wholly right wing. I don't care if they think they're leftists just because they're voting Democrat. They're just deluding themselves. This is the origin of the adage "the road to hell is paved with good intentions." The Democrats haven't represented the left in decades and now they've moved so far right that they're aiding in genocide, fucking the working class, and prancing around the campaign trail with Dick Cheney

  • Ford stopped making cars because they can't compete with the current crop of cars coming from Japan/Korea and Europe regardless of how much money they throw at the problem. They have their niche with trucks and SUVs and are happy to stay there. China builds cars using massive government subsidies, slave labor, and local resources that aren't available to anyone else in the world which is why I think it's right to fight against them because it's impossible to compete against them just like a small local grocery store can't compete against Walmart.

  • By "far-left" you mean the pro-Russia and pro-China segment of this place? They seem more like government mouthpieces than people who actually support leftist policies (which don't represent the policies of the Russian or Chinese government.

This place is also full of Blue MAGA liberals which I'd classify as right-wing at this point, so it seems there's a whole spectrum of beliefs represented here.

  • Perfect logic here. Everything must be dangerous because it has "chemicals" and isn't well tested. Have you done a scientific study on the chemicals you breathe such as your local air supply? It's definitely dangerous unless you have and I suggest you stop inhaling it until you do.

  • Probably because it was an affluent school. In a school with more poor kids, stuff like this is their little chance at feeling higher status than their peers even though it's all imaginary based on marketing.

  • How can you talk about "ignoring science" while making claims like "inhaling chemicals into your lungs is just clearly a bad idea?" You may want to look up a basic definition of "chemical."

Just because someone in the medical field conducts a study and publishes it doesn't mean they're correct or that their findings should automatically be taken as truth. That's literally what science is, questioning everything. Medical science also told us that the cure for mental illness was to scrape out parts of people's frontal lobe or shock their brain with thousands of volts of electricity and we can see how that turned out.

Nicotine usage is such a polarizing topic that gets lots of money flowing in from both sides with both sides expecting favorable results, so I absolutely take every one of these studies with a grain of salt.

  • I know of at least a couple of earlier e-cig studies that fired the coils until the tank internals literally started to melt (i believe they were 60 second long 'puffs') and give off toxins. They then used this flawed data to claim that vaping normally would expose you to these compounds. Outside of old ancient mechanical mods, most every device times out after 10 seconds and even if they didn't, no person would ever come close to a 60 second (nor even 10 seconds) long drag as the vapor temperature would burn the shit out of your throat long before that and people's lungs aren't large enough to inhale for that long.

  • I think i must be conflating different instances as I did do some googling and the "Underwear Bomber" most closely matches my (probably addled) recollection. However this guy wasn't arrested just before takeoff either, so that aspect must have been some instance that didnt gain as much notoriety and was lost in the news cycle.

  • Maybe I'm thinking of the guy who had the liquid pouch and matches, who is the reason why I can't bring a bottle of water through security. I would Google it, but I don't want to end up on a list by searching those specific terms in this political climate.

  • Pretty much just Youtube or random sites I've googled for whatever reason. I got banned from reddit and some lemmy instances hit the IT blacklist for being named like common malware so I don't even bother (plus it can get stale if you view it too often). I used to browse Facebook for the dopamine fill, but since the election that place has gotten quite insane even compared to how insane it was before.

  • Kia/Hyundai uses cameras and screens instead of mirrors in South Korea but that technology is illegal here in the US so we get mirrors. Its not too different than adaptive headlights which can adjust themselves to not blind other drivers. Legal in Europe but illegal in the US.
