  • My guess is that the evangelical base will continue to side with isolationists and we will finally have proof that they never gave a shit in the first place. They were being willfully manipulated by their puppet masters. I mean, we already knew that but there's the final nail in the coffin.

  • Ed is king. Every single time I have to work on a severely resource constrained system I always use Ed.

That's literally never happened to me but that won't stop me from saying it.

  • Yay story time!

One of the 2 SpaceX falcon 9 failures, CRS-7, was caused by the manufacturer claiming a strut (metal pole) was rated to N lbs but in reality its failure point was N/2.

SpaceX sourced the material from an industrial supply company, not an aerospace company, and that company's material testing procedures were less strict. During launch the strut failed and caused a "rapid unscheduled disassembly". Or, as I like to say, an sad boom.

It's a little different than what's going on with these aircraft but it's similar. These companies really need to test the stuff they buy because your supply chain

  • Launchpad! And generally the "GSE" (ground support equipment, like fluids and pipes), mission control, electrical and network infrastructure, etc.

The workers are generally technicians, not engineers, and they are both hilarious and excellent.

  • Boris Yeltsin was lambasted by the Soviet elites. They published nonstop criticism and lies. At one point they published how he was a pedophile and the public didn't even care. He laughed about it during a speech because it was, in the eyes of his supporters, an obvious fabrication.

Boris ended up being a drunk fuck up and lost the favor of Russians but he did that to himself. To be fair, economic shock therapy, inflation, and the perceived exploitation of Russia by the West contributed too. That's why I think Trump will not be taken down by losing court cases or by media outrage. He must do it to himself.

  • Okay well there may well be small and slight female IDF soldiers. I don't know if they'd find themselves on the front lines as I'm not familiar with IDF deployment. I also don't know if they'd be indistinguishable from a tattoo artist. Depends on the tattoo artist I guess.

She probably has a German accent and she doesn't speak Hebrew or Arabic. But I suppose if she were in shock you wouldn't be able to tell and if she were dead on arrival you wouldn't be able to tell.

  • You absolutely must watch this episode https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Measure_of_a_Man_(Star_Trek:_The_Next_Generation) the entire premise is that Picard provides a legal defense for the personhood of Data. The episode is literally a court case and it is one of the most well received episodes.

I think your slavery analogy holds. I don't think the Federation believes Data can be a slave because they don't believe he is sentient. But they do pick and choose how to apply their legal code to Data.

  • Nothing will disenchant the followers. This is ammo for them. Their guy is getting "persecuted" by the "evil Democrats and corrupt judges". They are more likely to want to destroy the government because they distrust it.

I mean, IDGAF. Trump delende est. But the Base will never defect.
