Because you could be on another machine that doesn't have Python 3.X it only has 3.X-1. or you could write code for Python 3.12 and then four years later no one has 3.12 anymore.

Sometimes you need to download packages from pip but pip might not be available or you may be hitting your company's internal pip mirror.

I have worked on a lot of real time simulation with python glue. It is.. not fun. I'm a better programmer for it though.

Lua is not as common as python. Every team I've worked on knew X and python. C++, Java, JS, or node, and then also python.

While you may be correct, if you're on a dogmatic team, work with dogmatic people, or are a part of a dogmatic company, you probably need to avoid duplication. You should listen to Noam Chomsky. He's very very liberal and has some good criticisms of the US involvement overseas. I don't agree with everything he says but it's worth listening to.

I can't tell if this career path is worth the stress but you're describing a lot of money. And it makes me feel like this is worth it.

Harm reduction is reducing harm. Pretty straight forward.

If Politician A wants to pass harmful drug laws and Politician B wants to do even worse, then voting for Politician A is harm reduction.

This is so reductionist it's absurd.

If the alternative is worse then yes, it's voting for the architect of the crime bill. It's not ideal but it's still harm reduction.

They want to force attrition. They over hired and need to reduce headcount but they don't want the negative press of laying more people off.
