  • True, but most if not all of those positions need congressional approval of the next person holding the position. It doesn't transfer automatically. The approval process can drag on for months. I think one or two are still "acting" secretaries under Trump.

  • I was curious how far down the line of succession you would have to go to find someone who would not be a catastrophically bad president. 11 positions down is the Secretary of Labor, Lori Chavez-DeRemer. She's a Hispanic woman who was one of 6 Republican house members who signed a pledge to respect the results of the 2024 election, the only Republican cosponsor of a pro- union bill, and opposes a national Bank on abortion or IVF. Far from Ideal but light years better than the rest of the fascists on the list

  • I would argue that fascism is an inherent weakness of democracy that must be constantly guarded against. The public will always be vulnerable to those who would manipulate their worst impulses. Hate, fear, vengeance.

All who wish to preserve democracy need to band together. Anything else is secondary.

  • I, Frankenstein

CGI filled brainless action with demons and gargoyles fighting a secret war. Aaron Eckhart as Frankenstein is stuck in the middle. The whole thing tries to copy the vibe of Underworld and mostly fails. Somehow I still love watching it. It's just the right kind of bad for me.

  • Liberals will work with whoever gives them the best chance to retain power. That could be socialists or fascists. By refusing to work with them, you leave the fascists as their only option to retain power. You create the exact environment fascism wants - a divided left.

  • Equality was an ideological principle woven throughout the Constitution, but it was selectively granted to only a few. That doesn't mean we should throw out the idea of equality because it wasn't applied correctly. In the same way we shouldn't throw out firearm restrictions because they were applied selectively.

  • Traditionally (as in the decades after the 2nd was written) all concealed carrying of weapons was illegal. It was also not uncommon for law enforcement to disarm people when they entered town. Heller is a terrible ruling because it claims to hold to history while ignoring historical norms that are inconvenient for the pro-gun lobby.

  • As much as being out or outed can put you at risk in many places in the world, I don't think there is an obligation to put yourself at risk by being an activist. That being said, there are ways to provide aid to those in need besides activism.
