Are they though? Or maybe they are also victims of global warming who, when their islands flooded, or their homes burned, watched some of these folk continue to lead lifestyles that are incredibly damaging to the environment.

Yeah, I’m sure this is all people whose islands have flooded boosting the criticism of overconsumption and not conservatives going on their regular California hate. 🙄

Do you even know there are two fires in two different LA communities burning right now? Could you point out where Altadena is on a map before last week? Do you know anything about how that is mostly a racially diverse middle class neighborhood that was one of the few areas in LA that WASN’T historically redlined, and one of the only places black people could actually build up equity instead paying a landlord until they die? People who are, as we speak, having images of them fleeing for their lives with what they can carry spread around and being called LOOTERS by the people you are falling over yourself to defend with their shitty, horrible treatment of people living through an active disaster?

If you don’t know any of this don’t you dare lecture me on the complexity of this. Jesus Christ.

Anyone who wants to go up to people in an active (the fires are still burning! People still are under evacuation orders!) global warming-caused natural disaster and say “I told you so” is, at best, a sociopath.

Anyone who hasn’t been outside in ash coming down like snow and seen FEMA at their local libraries can shut the fuck up and kiss my fucking ass.

Just be very sure you trust the list owner, as some have already started doing shit like turning them into grudge lists once a bunch of people subscribe, using lists that are popular for leftist reasons to mass add trans people without subscribers knowing, etc. I think Bluesky has been cracking down on that sort of thing, but it’s also something they can only act on once they know about it.

Altadena--where the images of the "looting" are coming from--is not Pacific Palisades. Living in LA county doesn't mean you're rich, and most people in Altadena weren't.

It's a racially diverse neighborhood that historically wasn't redlined, representing one of the few areas in LA where black families were able to build equity instead of perpetually renting. It's not an accident that these ghouls are showing black people fleeing from their homes with what they can carry and calling it looting, and it's going to get people fucking killed.

Convincing people that looting is happening on any real scale (it’s 99% people escaping evacuation zones or returning to their burnt up homes) is going to get someone fucking shot, just like it did during Katrina.

You can go full passive humidification with terracotta, if that’s something you’re interested in. You just need a bowl, pan, dish, or other item that can hold water, and then place the terracotta on top of it. Cheapo terracotta pots work fine, they just have to be in contact with water but not fully submersed. The more surface area exposed to air, the more it will evaporate water into the air. You can put tap water in that all day long and while it might get mineral build up, it’s not going into the air.

You can achieve the same thing with a very wet towel hung up to dry if you really need it; that’s what we’re doing right now, and it’s amazing how quickly it brings it the humidity back up.

Sound, definitely at times. More commonly when outside sounds (traffic, construction, etc) get incorporated into my dream. I feel like sometimes I experience knowledge of sound in my dreams (responding to things that would require hearing it in IRL, like speaking) but don’t actually remember hearing anything, because dream logic.

Smell is more rare in my dreams, and I don’t think I’ve ever experienced any very lovely smells in my dreams. But I have smelled a horrible rotting smell in my dreams before.

Yeah, it sounds like he is responsible probably for the Kenneth fire, which started after the winds had died down a bit. Still enough wind to kick it off (regular 20 mph gusts), but it wasn’t hurricane force winds like Tuesday when the Palisades and Eaton fires started. I’m skeptical that any arsonist is fire happy enough to also get clonked in the head by flying debris.

Any spark that wasn’t dealt with immediately during Santa Ana’s that severe (60-100 mph gusts, constant wind around 40 mph), and during a severe drought, AND with humidity below 20% was going to blow up.

It is wonky that it happened in January, because historically that’s when we’re getting rain, but that hasn’t happened this water year. For all practical purposes we’re still in the dry season.

That was a potential solution I’d considered as well, but that’s also open to abuse (join a community, set a reminder for x amount of time, do the same thing as you were going to do anyway but with a delay). It would probably stop casual harassment but not do much for the KF-level stuff.

If it was easy to solve someone would have already done it, is my feeling. IMO trust in your instance admin to be fair when the community is at odds with the mods is the only practical way to deal with it without basically reinventing secure voting with verified voters. Which sounds like a hassle, but Godspeed to anyone who wants to give it a go.

I know this isn’t particularly novel or news to anyone here, but god, these people are so fucking stupid. Wind going 60-100 mph and they think a straight white man is going to put the fire out with his cock?? There’s video of one of the tanker planes trying to dump water on the fire and the wind is so strong it fucking floats there. What are you going to do against that?

You are ignoring that harassment is a problem. If any group of people has the power to follow you around and kick you out of any space you create then congrats, you’ve just made Kiwi Farms a new playground.

And if it doesn’t grow but a mob of users that you’ve pissed off somewhere else go find your community and vote you out of it?
