  • Nebula is one I've been interested in too, I always see creators I like advertising that they're on there as well. If anyone knows how it compares to Curiosity Stream or other services I'd be interested to know (hope this isn't too off topic, OP).

  • Option (4): Venus. Apparently the planet Venus is a very common cause of UFO reports.

  • This one didn’t collide with another plane, so there’s that at least. We’ll see when the NTSB report comes out, but crashes right after takeoff are usually caused either by bird collisions or mechanical failure.

The first is sheer bad luck a lot of the time, but the latter is totally justified to worry about. So I tell myself, as it’s what I’m afraid of, hah.

  • I just wanted you to know that you can't just say the word tariffs and expect anything to happen.

    I didn’t say it. I declared it.

  • If you’re going to misrepresent what I said that badly while completely ignoring that this is, in fact, a widespread and standard headline format seen across many publications then I guess we’re done here 👍

  • According to emergency personnel on the scene, the six people were two doctors, two pilots, a pediatric patient and likely a family member of the patient.

    Fucking tragic.

  • Not only do they not need the water right now, rain is expected in the next week so this could actually increase the risk of flooding.

  • PBS is the only streaming service we have left. I love me some Antiques Roadshow.

  • If you think Common Dreams is trying to downplay the illegal nature of the firings and not just following a normal journalistic practice, you have lost the plot. You can see quotes used in headlines like this all the time, like here.

  • It’s in quotes because it’s directly quoting someone (the USAID official).

  • There are conflicting reports about whether or not the staffing was normal when it happened, but it wouldn’t shock me at all if staffing was an issue just because it’s been an ongoing issue in the US in general for years. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this happened after Trump was inaugurated and not before, but given DC airspace it’s possible this was a bomb waiting to go off anyway.

  • Fundamentally, your question is “does it make me a bad person if I have done bad things?”, which is so complicated that people make entire philosophies and religions out of the answers to that, haha.

My view: you can be a good person who has done bad things, if you change your behavior and try to make amends. That doesn’t mean everyone has to accept or forgive you, but it’s a necessary part of being a good person.

  • They didn’t even learn anything from Dubya. Their answer to Bush was Clinton, not Obama. Obama was an unexpected primary winner thanks to people that were insanely enthusiastic about his platform, and healthcare reform coming into the public spotlight. The turnout he got was like nothing they’d been able to do before.

And what they took away from that was “wow, Obama was just a once in a generation charismatic speaker.” 🤦‍♂️ I look forward to the next round of being told how good the economy is!

  • Yeah, you know shit is fucked when eggs are over $8/dozen at Aldi!

  • In phase 3 clinical trials by the drugmaker, researchers looked at how well the drug worked after surgery. Patients who had undergone either tummy tucks or bunion surgery were given either suzetrigine every 12 hours; an opioid, hydrocodone, plus Tylenol every six hours; or a placebo for 48 hours after the operations.

    [ . . . ]

The dose of hydrocodone was also smaller than what is typically given after surgery, “so it’s hard to know exactly what to make of the results,” Rind said.

    🚩🚩🚩

I’m not saying this is 100% what it is, but if I wanted to make a less effective drug look more effective, then comparing its performance to a smaller than normal dose of an approved drug would be one way to do it.

If it’s actually effective then that’s great, there are people that need non-opiate alternatives. My worry is that it’s not and this is going to wind up being another way patients in acute pain get told to suck it up and deal by their doctors.

  • “Both pilots had flown this specific route before, at night. This wasn’t something new to either one of them,” said Jonathan Koziol, chief of staff for Army aviation. “Even the crew chief in the back has been in the unit for a very long time, very familiar with the area, very familiar with the routing structure.”

They’re saying that to imply that therefor they’re not at fault, but if anything routine makes you more likely to make mistakes. I’m sure the staffing problems didn’t help either. I guess we’ll see when the report comes out, if the black boxes survived.

  • They’re $8.75 for 12 at Aldi in CA. Or if you’re a real saver, 60 for under $45!
