the ONLY thing that I find gives me a side step was the statement:
"it demeans women and reduces the sexual act to just being a physical act"
I think it has some merit. Though I didn't actually pick up on the gender of the prostitute (I guess we're all assuming). It still breaks the importance of the emotional connection to a sexual partner as you're learning about early adulthood. I don't think real harm came to the boy in this instance particularly, but I couldn't imagine being that sex worker. I would do it, but shit, that's gotta follow you a little bit your entire life and something you would always think about. Probably would be my last "John" to be honest.
The other harm comes from people reading the article, especially young boys. It encourages the mindset that the sex act is the important thing one must conquer, not opening up and being vulnerable to a partner to share that experience with. It's super fucking tough though, like finding him just a date would be better but all the implications of what that would entail for the people involved is just heartbreaking.
It's the corporate doubling-down that you have to worry and look out for. As you say it's a revenue source for them. In fact, they spent over 100k (as stated by them in their own shows) for "Marketing" to get this screwdriver out there, for something that's a revenue source for them.
It has to be such a lucrative deal for them that they are pulling resources from other revenue to prop this up. Prepare for the slow enshittification of his tools. They order them from a manufacturer, parts will become cheaper, bulks will slowly have less quality control, and they'll "move on" to later versions that pocket them more cash. They really don't have to worry about their reputation as a "Tool manufacturer", they'll just pass the blame off onto another party while sweeping things under the rug and continuing on whistling like nothing happened.
I might need a !remind me on here in 10 years.
Honestly, I just dislike the product more for it being a middle-of-the-road type of product then what I thought it was going to be when they were hinting at it plus the company and shit going on behind the scenes. I was a big linus guy back in the day, used to even put the WAN show on in the background during work. Guess this is what the Tesla people feel. Probably more jaded thinking about what the people behind the scenes are going through, while the money fucking rolls in for the top.
Definitely could describe me as a frequent screwdriver user. Currently restoring 2 John Oster vintage drill drivers, tradesmen, electronic repair tinkerer (unfortunately for everyone else in my life as well, it's always overwhelming), just basically always have a screwdriver in my hand every day.
I think if I were to reevaluate my statement, I would put it as:
"It's a shitty-looking-plastic Screwdriver, for 70$"
You can claim the inner mechanisms and their elevated teeth count "makes it a vastly superior product", but as someone who owns several ratcheting screwdrivers, I wouldn't recommend this out of the blue for someone. If someone has "particular gripes, all of which are solved with this product", then it might be a good match for you.
If you want to support them, the 70$ isn't a bad price ticket for what you get. It's like a donation with a really cool grab bag that you actually want. If you're telling someone who doesn't have a ratcheting screwdriver to first pay 70$ on this? You're just shilling for the company.
I can't believe I have to say this near the year 2025 of our lord and saviour president musk, but don't buy your fucking tools from a tech tip influencer. These are a MegaPro patent from an actual tool company. They are lower in price, rubber grips, and actually look better. If you don't care about the look, spend an extra 10$ and get the Snapon with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. It's the same one Linus used before he created this gimmick, he didn't replace it because it had "sentimental value" apparently.
I could go on and on, but obviously anyone that's actually looked into it would know that this isn't such a grand prize as those who want to push LTT merch make it out to be.
edit: meant to say shitty looking plastic, not shitty plastic.
yeah, a really bad one rigged up on a cleanout for a main venting/drain stack. But, at least they got a p-trap in there lol.
I think you're taking some vague statements and trying to proclaim a universal scientific truth out of it.
"Even the most die-hard anti-death-penalty believer has their limits."
I’d love a source for this.
fundamental part of human nature. Subjective: (Based on a given person's experience, understanding, and feelings; personal or individual.
(you mean, like the complete opposite of your statements can also be true?!)
This is fundamental to the individualistic nature of people. Asking for a source on something ingrained in our everyday lives is almost a bad faith statement
So we have fundamental, ingrained states that you've declared to be unsourceable (scientifically) and is such a part of us that even bringing it up sounds like bad faith. Real "trust me bro, this is how it is" vibes with no clarity or justification.
People can downvote you but aren't even thinking it out. Hitler right now is still a projected person for the far-right nazi movement and is brought up constantly. What if he had been imprisoned and actually got mental health care that doesn't really exist in most prison populations currently (globally that is). If you had a senior Hitler, with life imprisonment, painting fields of flowers with jewish and little blonde/blond kids running around, it would be a totally different outcome in this day and age.
To be possible though the prison system would need completely reworked. In our current system I don't think it would have the same outcome (since our system has a different purpose than rehabilitate currently). I also think people shouldn't be able to communicate as effectively with the outside world without extra censorship (that whole no harm to society thing, can still happen if they're voicing action or calls to violence, happens still currently.).
You're completely missing the point and focusing on an individual. They're stating the moral purpose of a SOCIETY. As in the society shouldn't kill and it certainly shouldn't be ONE individuals decision for that murder to take place. YOU might have a redline/breaking point, but society wouldn't. It's why ONE person isn't the deciding factor on death, it's a societies moral choice to do that and uphold that.
You guys can pretend that EVERYONE has a breaking point, that doesn't mean you can't have a society that doesn't have the death penalty. I feel like these responses are just people trying to incite continued violence or justifying their own extremely vitriol need to kill those they deem less.
I guess, continued explanations of why the politics are failing in America. Average citizen, "ok he pardoned more than his son, great. Oh he believes in the dignity of human life (strange way to put it but ok). He decided to leave 3 to die? Umm ok."
It's the same shtick with the "build back america greater" infrastructure bill. It all sounds great for the media till you actually scrutinize it. "Oh you're wanting to spend how much on highspeed rail? Great! Oh, it's all going to a shady company that has the countries worse rail record and has been lining everyone's pockets financially but running a deficit since operation? umm ok?"

ty, just not seeing it for some reason (I meant a new meme like having a blank comment was the new cool thing to reply with lol). I'll have to figure out what's going on because it's a lot of them lately so need to see if it's images I'm not seeing from a certain instance or what.
idk, I find the coupon thing to be super easy. Just takes one search and maybe two clicks if you have ad blockers on. Mostly the only time is if I'm ordering something like pizza for a get together where no special applies. There's a local chain in my state that had a coupon code for half off my order that wasn't listed on their site (they might've given it to me if I called but who knows). Been using that for the past year and it allows me to convince everyone to go there instead of a national chain. I've also been lucky with some manufacturers coupons for products I'm ordering straight from them, it's more rare though so it's hit or miss sometimes.
It's getting worse, I can't remember who but I was watching a video just the other day and their ad segment was the fucking ltt ratchet driver. You know, the one they supposedly made because they were tired of the market and the low quality rip-offs all the companies were just trying to make profit off of (it's a shitty plastic screwdriver for 70$, link to pic and it's being sold at fucking walmart now). They sold it as such a heart string story in the beginning, it's just another mini-wannabe corporation.
I don't particularly feel bad at this point for their continued reputation downfall and the people responsible. Everyone has their own personal story of their favorite company which has turned to complete shit (Blizzard is one of mine). They didn't come out strong but doubled down corporate style when everything started. That's fine, but anyone staying and putting up with the stressful workplace knows what they've gotten themselves into.
Typically I don't, the only reason I pull it up is because I have posts from 10 years ago that still get responses every month (I get e-mail alerts for those posts). Usually I'll just message the user with information and an alternative forum I've setup in the past if they need more answers (it's really niche and this forum format (reddit/lemmy) really doesn't suit the topic). I keep thinking one day it will be all bots just leaving messages but they respond and usually sign up on the other site. So, I feel conflicted about deleting my posts or not responding because it is actually effective at connecting to new people, at least for the time being.

Am I missing out on a new meme that everyone is in on? I keep seeing blank messages that everyone is upvoting (like the 5th one in the past few days). Is there an image that's not loading for me?
Do they? I've never seen a company linked to any of the sketchy stock trading that gets reported like with Pelosi. I think you should be allowed to do things like bonds, but ANY stocks should be sold off before taking any office. Having any stock in any sector is the same as having a business in the sector (stocks is part owning), it should all be illegal. The very act of having stocks means your mindset is going to want a "positive" impact on the stock market, not the economic reality of an average citizen (their constituents who voted them to represent them and not the politicians interests).
Ok, but I'll admit I'm confused on the praise or whatever is going on. Appointing judges is the duty of the President, so he did his job? Well he doesn't actually appoint, it's the senate who confirms, so, yay Senate?
To Cohen, the law professor from Drexel, the news is more nuanced than either Democrats or Republicans would like it to be. “Multiple things can be true at the same time,” he told me Sunday. “It’s fantastic they confirmed so many judges to counterbalance the Trump cadre of judges. But also, there should be zero vacancies remaining.”
(context)
there are still 36 judicial vacancies he can fill in the federal courts, all but 2 in the district courts. (A couple of Biden’s nominees did not wind up being confirmed after he reportedly did not formally submit their nominations to the Senate in time.)
so if we're averaging it out like he didn't turn in 38 assignments, he got a 86% (B grade). Happy he did the thing, just not sure on the fanfare of it all.
... So the Iraq war was now to help the little guy and so the US could be anti-Imperialists? wtf is going on in here.
I'm starting to think they put something toxic in the Zip System, or at least it's like a gateway for corporate sponsorship cocaine. Once they start jerking themselves off talking about how great Zip is, it usually goes downhill from there (not bashing zip, just is always funny). I just recently gave up on him so it was interesting to see the decline. There would be a really great informative video, then several just commercialized crap.
The sad part is if any of these products are scammy, we probably won't find out about it publicly. The company product will just slowly fade from existence, maybe a report done by a safety or efficiency board that will call it out and be dropped from code. There's been plenty of building products that don't hold up to their specs when scrutinized.
damn, that sounds like you were part of a case study in your childhood. Is there a difference with how your brother turned out and yourself? Interested to know if you picked up skills like DIY and stuff while your brother isn't capable of those things.
Am male, stupidly so and grew up in the south where an active sex life as a youthful-lad was encouraged and I definitely filled that role. I concur that what you've said is the most common perception in our circles and definitely in western media as a whole. After getting older and actually talking to people about their childhoods and those from other areas of the world, I don't believe it to be a "destined/hormone raging" outcome that's necessary, but often taught/learned from peers.
If it was, we wouldn't be encouraging male individuals to find an outlet for their anger besides violence. You're also completely scapegoating like females don't have urges or hormones of which they have to battle with. There's whole societies out there that don't have the problems we run into because of our views on sexuality (but come with their own side effects like loneliness or low birth rates). It's also individualistic, everyone has different things they're dealing with on puberty and chemical changes. The fact that all males get the "it's hormones" excuse should be a red flag automatically that triggers further evaluation.
