  • I’m glad there’s a toggle, it seems like it would actually be useful here but I’d probably turn it off.

With that said, there’s a special place in hell for the multitudes of apps that have red notification dots all over the UI with no clear indicator as to what they’re about or how to clear them :D

  • Watermelon.

  • I’ve never wanted to see Cox get through successfully as much as I do now.

  • The only Star Wars I’ve ever seen is the holiday special, can’t say I’d recommend it. :0 I guess to some degree that’s one way to experience the franchise though!

  • I believe I know why! The original upload by BLR got copyright struck by Maroon 5, so it had to be taken down. This is an upload by someone else and they likely made some edits to the video to prevent it from getting flagged by the system :)

But yes I love both these songs hahaha Sassafras in particular fucks.

  • For me, it’s gotta be either “Haiku”, or “Sassafras”

  • Awesome, thank you for letting me know! I’m not an android user and the original app release implied that the play store had the same restriction so this is good to have complete info on. I went ahead and updated the original comment!

  • And the App Store version limits which Peertube sites you can use it with to a pre-approved list, so its usefulness atm is really limited unless you build it yourself.

(Edit: Corrected to remove play store reference)

  • I’ve been working on archiving/restoring material from an unpublished musical that was written in the 1980s, the playwright who originally wrote it passed away and was never able to publish it. It’s a sci-fi show that got a disturbing amount of things right about the world now (for example, there’s a song about being kept up at night staring at a screen and falling into existentialism - aka doomscrolling. The link is the playwright singing so it’s not nearly as strong singing as the demo but it gives an idea), and it all resonated with me deeply when I first read through the material.

We’ve been able to transcribe by ear most of the music, and recover the other music projects from floppy drives, while recreating the synth patches he used. I’ve even been interviewing cast members who were part of the show when it was being workshopped, to get a better picture of where everything fits in the show’s history. My hope is that maybe by the time I’m done it’ll be in a state where it’s more likely to be picked up and produced one day - because before I got to it it was very disparate and kind of scattered across a lot of different folders without much context.

  • I’m working on a project that’s really important to me - and I think that there’s a good chance I’ll see it through to completion at this point.

Admittedly, outside of that project… my life has not really been doing much for me lately. I’m glad to have something right now that’s helping keep me stable and sane in a world that really feels like it’s falling apart, but sometimes it really feels like I’m working to finish it and get it out there before life becomes a bit too much.

  • Sadly, neither have I- in the closed source world there’s stuff like Soundslice which is pretty good but nothing really open source

  • It can, and it’s quite good! But I mean something more like a self hostable archive.

  • I would really like to see something like Jellyfin/Komga but for sheet music. There’s a software in early development called Sheetable that stores it in PDF format, but I really want to see something that has MusicXML support so that sheets can be played back.

  • Aww, this is cute and I like it! I love cool customisation for consoles like this.

  • Wildly, people still think that about working at Apple, for now. I do see that changing slowly too though.

  • Good point! I’ve edited my original post to clarify my intention behind bringing up the Patreon.

Overall, the main point I’m trying to make is that the man has a history of chronic project hopping and being hostile to other people who want to contribute to his projects. The goal was not to say that he should be able to fund his entire project via Patreon, but rather that I don’t know he’s the best person to spearhead three fedi platforms at once.

  • I personally would love to see a fediverse alternative to something like StumbleUpon, which I always found to be quite unique in the realm of social media.

I also think having something like Spotify with social features powered by the fedi would be neat (I realise technically funkwhale is vaguely this, but in execution it really isn’t. It’s federation is pretty basic/not social). Thinking something where you can easily start listening parties, share music to friends to listen to, find song recommendations from friends likes, etc.

  • I reaaallllly would urge people not to get involved with this kickstarter. He gave similar lists of things he would do with the money he’s been receiving from his backers on his Patreon for years. He never had enough money from his patreon to do that and the claims should not have been made. (I’ve also noticed how on his posts about the kickstarter he goes out of his way to say his work is “entirely self funded”) Instead he’s been jumping from project to project and has been incredibly awful toward folks who want to help improve the stuff he’s neglected.

Take it as a red flag that he’s still the only dev actively working on three incredibly half baked fedi apps, and if you can, look through his mastodon profile to see the kinds of things he says. Check the GitHub issues for Pixelfed and how long some of the most basic ones have been sitting there for.

I genuinely do hope this kickstarter yields something the Patreon I supported does not, as I still run a Pixelfed instance and like it conceptually. But the software itself has been and only gets more broken, and given the way he has privately treated the pixelfed-glitch team all the while publicly acting like he’s been great to and is actively working with them, I really don’t think this dude is acting in especially good faith.

Edit: Took feedback from a reply and clarified the intention behind my point about his Patreon.
