  • That's the vagabond lifestyle, and yes there's a modest number of them. It's apparently a hard life, but at least you're pretty much completely free.

They're basically hippies, they mostly bum rides. Dumpster diving is popular. People give them stuff too. You meet more in places where winter isn't really a thing, just cuz winter gets kinda cold, and they can go where they want, so they don't really stay there.

  • Honestly I don't remember the details, and when I google "taylor swift ticketmaster" I get fairly predictable results. There was some drama about them screwing her over, and her screwing them over in return or somesuch. I do know that ticketmaster has held a significant monopoly on event ticketing for over a decade now though, and has only recently begun to get investigated.

Sorry I can't be more use, I'm not a swiftie and I tend to dislike pop culture in general.

  • We had a bridge not too far away for our "real" fights. Strangely, the formality kept things more civil.

Though there was one time a kid got literally thrown over the side of it. Water underneath so he was fine, but still was kinda crazy.

  • Yeeeeah, you've already been sidelined as part of a fascist takeover. You guys had your chance to stop him, a few years ago before he took the mask completely off. Mike Pence even actually did, temporarily at least, and deserves credit for that. They wanted to hang him for it.

Now it's our turn. If we fail it'll eventually be the military's job, and whether they choose to uphold their oaths to defend a piece of paper and literally coup him when he ignores it. If they fail, we get a fascist hell and probably end up invading Mexico, because war is how incompetent fascists keep the wheels spinning. So, kindly fuck off. Best thing you can do is spend the RNC bank account on a nice lavish vacation for yourself and vote for Biden.

Naive fools. The business elite thought they could control Hitler too. Didn't work out so well for them either.

  • I don't think most Lemmy users would support the idea that all ideas and opinions deserve equal consideration, so, yeah, that's going to happen.

What makes the Fediverse unique is they could actually take steps to stop that if they wanted, by defederating from the higher population Instances. Most services would not give them that option. They have equal right to be here, but that does not amount to equal right to be liked and agreed with.

That said, I do agree that the downvoting gets a little out of control on here sometimes.

  • Honestly it doesn't really matter. The second amendment does exist, so some arms in the hands of the populace will be allowed unless we amend our constitution.

That said, we can draw lines based around what kinds of weapons. And something like a bolt action rifle or pump shotgun can be excellent for hunting, but very difficult to conceal or commit any kind of mass shooting with.

It's semi-autos that are specifically capable of high rates of fire and quick reloads, and that become dangerous. We can regulate some of those arms the same way we regulate access to tanks, jets, nukes and chemical/biological arms.

  • Lemmy just has an unusually large number of passionate young people on it. Not surprising when you consider the Fediverse as more of a rebellious option looking to upend the dominance of the giants.

Also makes it feisty though. It's kinda on you to make it good for yourself by controlling what communities you sub to though.

  • Mike Johnson, the leader of our lower legislative house, is blocking all votes on Ukraine aid. He won't allow it to come to a vote. So, as a way to pressure him, it has been linked to something he ostensibly supports so that he has a harder time unilaterally blocking it.

He can still probably block it, but its harder to justify to his voters.

Ukraine aid on its own is a flat no, though, for as long as he occupies his position, which he got fairly recently.

  • Depends on the game. Deep Rock Galactic is a good example of a more pro-social game, in the fps genre no less.

Assuming you have not reached the level of actual addiction anyway. Anything enjoyable, even things like sweets or gambling, can potentially become addictive. That's a whole different consideration.

  • I understand being angry, but try to remember that if you really want the world to get better, it's about talking to people, and trying to get through to them. This requires a more nuanced understanding, first.

Unless you just want war and chaos, in which case, well, that's just trolling. You can't bully people into changing though. Were you ever bullied, and did you simply cave to the bullying?

  • This is just an absolutist stereotype. The world is more complicated than that, as usual. If you're really capable of solid critical thinking, you should know better than to throw around "always".

While it can feel good to think you understand how all the people work, it's a bit of a fools errand.

For one thing, it depends on which Fox programs they watch. Tucker is one thing. The business news is another.
