  • Sounds about right. When I joined the military I met people from Alabama, and even people from other Southern states had nasty things to say about that state. I didn't believe it at first, but then I saw enough over time to realize, "I hate to say it, but maybe they're right. At least about some of the smaller towns and more rural areas."

I met a few nice people from Alabama, yes. I also met... a surprising number of not so nice types. I'm Asian by the way, not White. I'll let people fill in the gaps.

  • Well he's not wrong. Especially the Red States....

Like others have said, this is kind of a broken clock is right twice a day kind of situation. Similar to when he said that prescription drug prices are too high.

Edit: The irony being that almost every time he had a "broken clock" moment, Biden was the one who acted on and fixed the issue he was right about. Infrastructure, pharmacy prices, even border security. Joe Biden actually did what Trump constantly promised and never delivered on.

  • This is true, but as long as those capitalists keep doing this, and doing this busts unions and brings in workers who can't vote and can easily be deported for not working hard enough (re: be exploited) it's not insane to oppose immigration to certain sectors of work.

It's similar to opposing outsourcing. It doesn't mean you're racist, it means you know what it'll do to depower labor organization movements. People forget that the reasons Immigrants aren't "taking ur jobs" now is because they already took those jobs in the past, killing many unions along the way.

Many dirty jobs that non-union immigrants are doing now used to be done by unionized white working class types previously. I watched a documentary about meat plant workers on strike for instance (I think that union worked for Hormel) who were striking for healthcare. What happened? They all got fired and replaced by imported Mexican workers.

The Union? Easy to guess what happened.

  • Gotta be careful at those moments. Some banks and credit unions "forget" that there's a bill pending RIGHT before they deduct it permanently. It happens right when they swap a deduction from "pending" to final. Can up to an hour lag (or more) before they do it too.

I learned the hard way, but back then, my credit union was nice and didn't charge overdraft fees for the first overdraft in a day. Now they've basically changed all their rules to basically being the same as a regular scuzzy bank, but they don't have the perks, benefits, or number of locations as a scuzzy bank, so I'm thinking of just dropping them.

  • I don't know, but the LA Sherrif's Department certainly did. Which is why we kicked out Alex Villanueva and replaced him with Robert Luna. That was one satisfying vote, and I'm surprised Luna only won 60 / 40. I expected more like 70 / 30 at least. For a supposed "progressive" and left-leaning guy, Villanueva went full Trump really fast.

  • The real pain is that several sources seem to say that the Thousand Year Door is arguably the best Paper Mario. I missed out on it when it came out, so the only choice I have if I want to play it is to Monkey D. Luffy it. Which to be honest, I'll probably do.

  • To be honest, I've always felt like ratings systems needed a "thumbs sideways" option. Like a "meh" or "it's okay" or even "it's kind of good, but has flaws that bring it down".

Youtube for instance really could use a thumbs sideways button. Many sites that show longer form artistic content that could have varying degrees of quality over time could also use it.

  • With Windows 11 apparently just flat out stealing good stuff from KDE, may as well just use KDE instead. Cinnamon is my #1 desktop UI, but KDE is my #2. Keeps getting better too, based on what I see on KDE Neon.

  • 2016, I agree. He was cheated and could've beaten Trump.

2020? Not so sure. Even Bernie himself admitted that Joe Biden's pro working class policies and bottom up, middle out economic plan was very similar to his. He even said that his campaign team was so glad that Joe Biden didn't run in 2016. Bernie himself stated that Joe Biden was so sincerely for the average working American, that even though Biden was basically "Bernie Lite", he wasn't sure he could win against Joe.

If we look at what Joe Biden's been doing for this country, including passing the infrastructure bills, limited gun restrictions, and the Inflation reduction act, we see that he is kind of "Bernie Lite" and honestly, it's SO much better than Trump, that I'll take it.

  • Yo, people change! At first I was like, "Pssh, unions suck, they don't ever want me in them anyway." But then later on they were like, "I like you, you're cool. Why don't you join our union club? All the cool people are doing it." and then I was like, "Peer pressure? Naw, I HAVE to give in to it."

    So I joined the union.

  • Ah, the Windows approach. The few times I worked with PC Repair shops, backing up everything and reinstalling the OS was the go to for most "repairs". Especially since it was faster and cheaper than just researching all the issues and repairing them the "right" way. Although to be fair, if the OS is borked enough, backup + reinstall IS the right way.

  • TLDR: He doesn't forgive anyone who sins, he forgives those who repent. Repent not meaning "feeling sorry" as many seem to explain, but actually meaning "to turn away" which means changing fundamentally as a human being. From a bad person to a good person.

Someone who doesn't change and act good most of the time isn't repentant, so isn't forgiven. So basically, you prove it with your actions and how you live your life, not with just words only. By this measurement, Republican "Christians" aren't repentant and so aren't forgiven.

Not a Christian anymore, but I used to be for a very long time. Sidebar: "You will know a tree by it's fruit" AKA you'll know what kind of person someone is by what they do. Anyone who's even skimmed the bible (especially the new testament) would easily understand that most conservative "christians" aren't Christian at all, but rather like the Pharisees (phony religious types) that Jesus constantly argued with and condemned.

Other note: Sikhs actually live the way Christian claim to. I could easily make a "hard to swallow pill" meme which said: "Sikhs are better Christians than actual Christians are."

  • Yep. And the people in charge know exactly what to do to divide us along racial / religious / political / etc. lines, and both parties are in on it. They know exactly what buttons to push so that the voting populace is divided 50 / 50 and can't unite to do stuff like make the economy fairer or save the environment.

Every time people start getting more socially liberal, the Democrats move further to the left, and every time their base gets comfortable with how extreme they're getting, Republicans move further to the right. The two party system is against reforms like ranked choice voting (which thankfully seems to slowly be getting progress) because they're not in the business of helping us, they're in the business of constantly "fighting" each other to look like they're doing something, when the real goal is to maintain the status quo or make it worse for us.

  • I also have the F310, and have had the same experiences as you. In addition to everything you said, the triggers are stiff and uncomfortable too. The only good things about it are that it's durable and that you can swap the d-pad and left thumbstick with a button press, and there's a d-input mode too.

The similarly priced 8bitdo Ultimate Controller (and probably the Pro2) is MUCH better and also has good customization software and a programmable autofire button. At least the non Xbox branded one does. Based on my experiences with the F310 I never wanted to risk buying the more expensive F710. Because the F310 with rumble + wireless capability doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

I'd rather spend less on somebody I know actually makes good (or "good enough") stuff, like PowerA or 8bitdo.

  • When step 2 intersects with capitalism, all the other stuff just naturally follows. Sure there are people who legitimately want to help people (read an article about 2 Christians giving up their high paying jobs to spend their time making affordable housing for the poor and indigenous people) but they're increasingly becoming the minority.

That said, money based religions are only one oppressive group that bands together for profit and control. Religions aren't much different than political parties (hence the smashup between many) and corporations, organized crime, etc.

Human nature, rather than being inherently good, tends to be inherently bad. Hence why most giant groups tend to be oppressive by nature. It's why I believe that there shouldn't be giant concentrations of wealth and power.

  • To be fair, mostly if it's a more user friendly and Windows-like distro, like Mint with Cinnamon or Xubuntu. Plenty of choices really, but generally the ones where you can put application shortcuts on the desktop with no hassle (and similar Windows like things) tend to be an easier transition.

  • When I got tired of some BS changes Google was making with Chrome (and concerned about the Chromium near-monopoly) I switched to Firefox. It had just revamped itself out of the Australis debacle, and had some very good extensions available on the front page of its store, so I switched and never looked back.

Honestly, for what I wanted and needed out of a browser, it was just better than Chrome, and it still is. Highly underrated browser, and I wish more people would give it a shot. I also wish that Mozilla would give people the option to change its default icon with their new, more sleek orange and purple swirl without the fox and world.

The default Firefox icon honestly isn't very stylish (especially when compared to the Chrome icon and the new Edge icon) and I think a lot of people may just avoid it due to not liking the way the icon looks. Dead serious here, marketing / image is everything for a lot of tech products.
