  • If it's youtube, I just back completely out of the video and exit the app and go somewhere else with my time. I do it every time, and now they don't show me 30 second unskippable ads anymore.

  • I respect that sentiment, but if that happens, his stupid conspiracy believing gun-nut militia joining followers would probably engage in multiple mass shootings nationwide. It's appalling how lax red state gun laws are.

As it is, when he goes to jail, I wouldn't be shocked if there's a handful of shootings anyway.

  • It's true. Kevin Feige (of the Marvel movies) once said something like, "People love chocolate ice cream, but if that's all you offer them every day, they'll start to hate it." and for a time, it seemed like he and Disney / Marvel understood that, which lead to such a wide range of movie genres for the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the breakout successes... but now I feel like they've forgotten that, and now we get the formulaic "Marvel Movie" template shoveled out, and now they're slowly starting to fail.

And for good reason. People need variety, and it's because entertainment producers don't understand this need that so many major studios are flailing. Hence the recent purge at Pixar for example, and why Ubisoft is struggling lately, etc. It's not just game publishers that have this issue, it's movies, tv, and comics too. Like the recent "Death" of Ms. Marvel which is eerily similar to all the extremely temporary crap that happened to Peter Parker's Spiderman in the past, like the "death" of his aunt, or his "marriage" to Mary Jane.

  • I know why they would do this (profit) but given that they should know that this'll lead to disease problems and infectious meat that'll harm people (including possibly themselves and their own family and friends) shouldn't they stop and think "Oh, this'll probably cause big problems in the future, even for me." and stop this shit?

Don't get me wrong, I think the meat industry needs major reform, and that meat alternatives should be greatly supported, but in the meantime, even profiteers should know better than this. And if the don't, people and governments should force them to do the right thing anyway. That's why government actually exists, not to do the bidding of the highest paying donors.

  • Good advice from 1901. Especially the bit about not marrying women older, taller, or wealthier than you. Especially all 3. Even if she's like 1 day older, 1 inch taller, or $1 wealthier than you. You gotta man up and not tie that knot!

  • Plans

  • I was like that when I was young. Now all my plans involve me forcing myself to do 1 or 2 productive things a day besides the stuff I have to do, and then just calling it a day and pushing aside the rest of the stuff I probably should do till tomorrow. Or more realistically, the next weekend or holiday.

I don't lie to myself anymore, I just admit that if it's not 100% vital, it won't get done quick, if at all.

  • Well, it's still Facebook owned after all, and given that Facebook still exists, it's kind of redundant with it. Many of the people who were on Twitter (like myself) were on it because it WASN'T Facebook or Facebook owned, and so we wouldn't go to that platform anyway.

Plus, it's not the only competitor out there, although to be fair, there's way too many competitors right now, and it needs to whittle down to like 3 big ones or so. And these ones should be friendly to apolitical types, moderates, and sane conservatives.

Like it or not, online liberals such as ourselves are the vocal minority. Most people in life (and even on the net, even though the internet trends more liberal) aren't as politically motivated as some in the Fediverse would assume. We're in a bubble / echo chamber. Especially on Lemmy / Kbin and Mastodon.

  • Firefox is underrated. The only issue I have is sites that are only optimized for Chromium, and especially edge. A lot of businesses and medical websites only develop for and test for 1 browser, and it used to be Internet Explorer, but now it's Edge.

Then there's Microsoft Websites too. I don't know if it's like that anymore, but I always had to use Edge instead of Firefox to subscribe to or cancel Xbox Game Pass in the past.

  • The only bit of good news is that young Republicans believe in climate change. Now I really wish they'd speak out more and start moving their party in that direction.

The GOP needs to die and be replaced with a better conservative party. What the old GOP (circa Eisenhower or so) was is what conservative Democrats are now. At the very least, we need ranked choice voting and a third party who'll take votes from the GOP by being similar in regard to most things EXCEPT action on climate change.

I know that's not ideal, but politics is about the art of the possible and choosing the least bad outcome. I'd rather have gun nuts / anti-abortion hounds / homophobes that care about the planet and perhaps support unions or something than what we have now. What we have now is people that are against everything good for the planet and its people.

  • Deadlight, from Tequila Works. I bought it for less than $3 on a whim (might have even been $1) during a Steam Sale on the last day, because "Why not" I thought. Then I actually gave it a shot, and it turned out to be really good. Especially surprising since I don't normally like side scroller puzzles with action elements. The difficulty was just right, and the forgiving checkpoints did away with the usual frustrations I have with games like this.

  • Everyone else has answered your other questions, but let me just say that I've used KDE Neon (while distro hopping) it's both beautiful and functional. The latest KDE developments are really solid and intuitive, and based on their development updates I've seen on Mastodon and elsewhere, it seems like they're really starting to understand their userbase.

I.E. they understand that most people want to double click icons to launch them even though almost the entire development team prefers single click. They're not doing the tunnel-vision dev thing where they force what they love on users even though the vast majority of the userbase prefers the opposite.

Edit: It looks and feels gorgeous, and even similar alternatives like Kubuntu kind of feel a little worse to me. Then again, I'm a serious Cinnamon / KDE fan, so other peoples' mileage may vary.

  • Not shocking. A lot of the people who claim to be the most "patriotic" or "religious" seem to be overcompensating for something else they're hiding. Kind of like the extremely "straight" types with gigantic closets.

  • It's not unintelligent. People are extremely adept at reading facial expressions and microexpressions. Years of evolution / survival instinct development have made us extremely skillful at knowing a lot about a person based on their face / eyes. Our lives depended on it, you see.

Your survival instincts (which are smart) are telling you she's an untrustworthy, toxic individual that you probably shouldn't keep around in your community, and in this case they're right. Everything else she says and does backs up your instincts too, so this isn't just a one-off thing.
