You shouldn’t be surprised.

People who work declining agriculture and heavy industry jobs want easy solutions. Republicans promise them easy solutions (tarrifs, bring the jobs back, stop immigration). Democrats bring up difficult things (retraining, actually nothing else).

So of course they want the easy solution. Who wouldn’t (doesn’t matter if it will work or not, the hard one sounds too hard for them).

Dems need to find easy solutions to get those people on board, otherwise they are screwed. Biden has started doing this by embracing tariffs on China (which are not working, but are VERY popular among the people they are slightly hurting).

If the rich don’t benefit from a policy, the policy will not be enacted. Turns out this is true internationally as well as locally.

Boycotts don’t work against Walmart because many folks (their core demographic) have no choice but to shop there.

I use mpv but the configuration is a big pain. Just try overriding a subtitle font in mpv, there are config files to change that don’t even exist by default and they live in different places depending on mpv version and it’s a huge mess.

I still do it because it’s lightweight and for some reason has better performance for me than VLC.

I don’t have kids but I’d kind of like to have adult kids when I’m old. So maybe I can adopt a college age person when I’m like 50 or something

You say that, but americas actions paint a totally diffedifferent picture. They are joined at the hip with Israel and that isn’t going to change easily.

Biden has to support Israel. It’s a centerpiece of us foreign policy for a reason; they want a friend in the region, and there is huge support from his constituents. It’s basically politically impossible to say no.

Not related but why do Palestinians have so many children? The Israelis do too but not as many.

He is as anti Israel as he can be. Usually anything less than full throated support would lose the election for a candidate of either party. And he’s still managed to condemn them a little bit, and is building a pier for aid delivery to Palestinians so fucking hmas can’t steal their aid. Like there really isn’t much more you can ask of a us politician without basically asking them to forfeit the election.
