  • Same here. Games and general office tasks work flawlessly on Linux. I currently only launch into windows for the Adobe suite and some other image editing apps (by Topaz Labs) that I already have licenses for but that won’t run on Linux.

So far the alternatives I’ve found aren’t nearly as powerful. However I’m determined to uninstall windows by the time my licenses run out 9 or so months from now.

  • I mean… yes. Definitely yes to the impostor syndrome. But people thinking I had answers made me pay attention differently and made me work harder to understand stuff because people were counting on me to always know.

It was like having an accidental accountability buddy. I could be questioned on the testing material basically at any point in time. So I tried to always be ready.

  • The way I pulled it off is basically by pure chance. A few classmates had gotten the impression (still don’t know how or why) that I was a good student. Whenever they had any difficulty at all they’d ask me. As such I was constantly explaining a bunch of stuff, especially the more difficult parts of the material. So from the moment I first understood it I just kept on repeating it to others endlessly.

In retrospect that’s probably what helped me get through the whole thing.

  • Actually in the Netherlands there is a program is called “Drugs Information and Monitoring System” (DIMS). You can take your illegal drugs there without facing any type of punishment. They’ll test your drugs (usually) for free just to see if they contain what you’d expect. It’s a harm-reduction project.

  • I looked it up. Seems this was the year he was formally diagnosed with HIV. And it was 4 years before it claimed him.

A lengend gone too soon, but it’s somewhat comforting to know he had fluffy companions.

  • My executive functioning fell off a cliff when a lot of externally enforced routines all stopped during Covid lockdowns. While watching YouTube it suddenly recommended a video describing what adhd can look like in adults. I looked into it more and am 99.99% sure. It explains so much about my whole life.

As I am not looking to get medicated and the waitlist for an official diagnosis is long I don’t see the point at the moment. Especially because I don’t feel like I need someone else to verify what I already know.

  • Our cat is basically fearless and gets bored easily. We like closing doors in our house upstairs to keep the temperature of the house more stable. Naturally when she is in one of those rooms we don’t want to lock her in so we try to get her out. She made that into a game of chase combined with hide and seek. Eventually that grew into a game she’d initialize throughout the whole house where she’d randomly fake-lunge at us and then sprint off. Or she’d hide behind a corner to ambush us. Sometimes we’d chase her. At other times we’d run away and hide and she’d come to find us and once she found us she’d run away again.

Problem is we’d be done playing after 5 minutes. She’d want to go on for 30 minutes at least. Anyway, she doesn’t initialize anymore since we got her a kitty friend. Now she plays a similar game with him that will sometimes go on for an hour at a time.

  • When my best friend started crying hysterically and begging to sleep over at our place because she knew she’d be severely beaten at home that night (for losing a hat at school that day). Not only was she not allowed to sleep over, but I was told off for asking. They did nothing about the abuse she told us about.

If I hadn’t known then I’d have known 2 years after when she screamed at me for going out of my way to save a kitten.

  • Alright, fair. Noted. Just because their marketing calls it ProRes RAW doesn’t mean it is true RAW. I didn’t look into it that much.

What I do know though and what my point was about is that it makes big files fast. Files of a type and scale you can’t effectively do anything useful with on an iPhone itself. So if you want to edit them (and why else would you shoot in that format?) then step 1 is that you want them off the phone and on a platform that can deal with them. And for that transfer speed matters.

  • There is at least 1 use case for it: some of the newer iPhones can shoot raw format video. Apple calls this ProRes. It is also possible to take those videos as large as 4K. This comes out to about 6GB per minute of video taken.

Imagine someone like a YouTuber decided to take a couple of 20-30 minute clips. Yeah, I wouldn’t want to wait for wireless transfer on that. Especially not if that is a regular thing someone does.

  • Yeah, this is definitely just someone who got told (possibly even by a band member of Rage Against the Machine themselves) what the songs and the band are actually about. Doubt a single song will ever be made.

  • Doubt I’ll be much help here if you’re worried about carbs. My main comfort food is pasta. Piles of pasta. I like just about any sauce or topping.

Only advice I’ve got is to think back to your childhood and see if you can think of anything that might scratch a nostalgia itch. That usually helps me too.

  • Well, if Pakistan got it right this might just be disconcerting enough for India to abort this planned attack . Even if Pakistan didn’t get it right or are maybe even bluffing it might create an international reaction that could cause India pause before any future attacks.
