  • There's a pizza place near my house that does wood-fired NY pizza, two giant slices plus a soda, for $7.50.

I dunno how they're making those prices work, but that's the only junk food meal I'm buying these days. I'd pay more for less food of worse quality at any fast food place.

  • Yes, I hope her momentum continues to grow and that she snaps up the undecided vote as people become more familiar with her.

But at that point, the question becomes whether she needs to debate. The Pod Save guys were saying that if she's ahead in the blue wall states by September it might be the smarter move to stay on the campaign trail and deny Trump the national airtime.

  • The problem with the Biden debate situation is that he was trailing in the polls, so he needed a debate with a strong performance in order to win over voters. Obviously, the opposite of that happened.

Trump's margin against Kamala is likely smaller, but he's still slightly ahead. It's probably much more prudent for him to avoid a debate given that Kamala would probably perform much better than him. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose.

  • Neither Meta nor anyone else is hand-curating their dataset. The fact that Facebook is full of grandparents sharing disinformation doesn't impact what's in their model.

But all LLMs are going to have accuracy issues because they're 1) trained on text written by humans who themselves are inaccurate and 2) designed to choose tokens based on probability rather than any internal logic as to whether an answer is factual.

All LLMs are full of shit. That doesn't mean they're not fun or even useful in some applications, but you shouldn't trust anything they write.

  • It's a war on both, but especially on LGBTQ people. The fundamentalists are anti-porn in the same way that they are anti-sex in other ways, like opposing sex education.

But it is absolutely part of their strategy to define anything LGBTQ-related as sexual or pornographic, and therefore to criminalize any public visibility of LGBTQ people.

  • This will be the Trump campaign's messaging tactic - try to divide and undermine party unity by suggesting Harris doesn't deserve the spot. The friction between Clinton and Sanders supporters likely handed Trump the presidency so expect Republican astroturfers to come out of the woodwork seeking to promote a bitter contest for this nomination.

Everyone with an ounce of sense knows there isn't time or money to speedrun another primary season between now and the general. Harris is still at this point an underdog and we need the entirety of party resources focused on Trump and the MAGA agenda. Even Whitmer, who would be my first choice and who probably does have national ambitions, has been clear that she is putting country before ego.

This is not the moment to screw around letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. We need solidarity to have a hope in November.

  • As I get older I find I just don't even have the time for AAA games. Other than Elden Ring, I haven't played a AAA game in goodness knows how long. 80-100 hours of playtime is basically a year-long commitment.

I love that there are so many indie games that offer a more compact experience and seem easier to put down and pick back up. Much more my speed these days.

I agree though that we're at a point of oversaturation. Steam is full of shovelware and barely discernable clones of crafting-survival games. But I hope the studios doing interesting work are able to survive this period so we can continue to benefit from their creativity.
