  • Every incremental step along the way is immediately profitable. The thought process would be "Somebody will stop it from getting that far, and when THAT happens I'll support the anti-authoritarian movement, but UNTIL then, all the other oligarchs are profiting from these incremental steps towards authoritarianism, and when the anti-authoritarianism kicks in there'll be no further short-term profit opportunities to exploit so I don't wanna be the only one who didn't avail of them when they were available".

  • Bystander effect/Nash equilibrium. Unless they're ALL doing it, none of them want to be the ONLY sucker who's forgoing short-term profit opportunities for the benefit of all. This is what government is supposed to enforce on them: forcing them ALL to support democracy.

  • At this point it's just a signature calling card. Like the Wet Bandits leaving all the taps running. Ensuring that everybody knows who did it, without officially claiming responsibility, is intended as a power move to remind everyone that Comrade Major is always listening so toe the line

  • It's a code that Chinese internet users use to refer to Xi Jinping. Or at least they used to. The CCP caught on and now that phrase gets auto deleted off of Chinese websites. "Tiananmen, Winnie the Pooh" proves I'm not a Chinese AI, and "8647, Luigi Mangione" proves I'm not an American one. I'm not really sure what would prove I'm not a Russian one. "Fuck Vladimir Putin"?

  • If server code is released such that people can run private servers after the official servers are shut down, then legally the people running the servers should be the ones liable for illegal activity that happens on them.

I could imagine third-party companies springing up whose entire business model is JUST providing unofficial servers for discontinued games and moderating them. Maybe a subscription service that provides access to servers for several different online service games.

Of course, it would be more likely that it would be just a player who hosts a server for themselves and their friends and doesn't attempt to be profitable. That would be fine too.

  • Dumbasses needed to see him do it live rather than google the existing data on how disastrous his last term was. Last time he was in office, they were listening to Baby Shark. "It happened 5 years ago so that's ancient history. I've got better things to do, like doomscrolling Tiktok for 8 hours"
