  • I watched through the first Avengers. It was pretty clear what the rest of it was going to be like.

  • I hope so, too. But you really can't do much with it without a disk drive. Even Bill there has the expansion unit. Just the computer itself with the tape drive is a horrible way to live. The tape drive can't play assembly games like the cartridges or floppies, just basic. And of the other popular 8 bit computers of the time, the 99 had the slowest basic implementation. Like, truly a slog to write or play anything with. I found myself never wanting to use it, and so I let it go. It was gorgeous, though.

  • I just sold mine this summer. Complete in box, with a tape drive and a bunch of games.

  • No way. That's from WNEM? That was one of the 4 channels we got in my hometown.

  • 8 is so good. And the music is great. I haven't finished 9 yet, same issue as you with the lack of time. But I'm hopeful I'll get back to it soon.

  • Ys Seven for the PSP. I have Ys VII and Ys: MoC for the Vita and Ys IX for the Switch, but there's something about Seven that keeps me coming back.

  • Oh, I saw all that. They probably have like, 4 engineers. Im in that industry, in the area. Never heard of them. Just looking at the fixtures and molds and stuff on their websites, I would be willing to bet they do well under $10M a year. Maybe even under $5M. Tiny.

  • You guys realize this company is tiny, right? The guy stabbed isn't some rich CEO. He just runs a machine shop. In Muskegon. Which is basically nowhere. Also, the guy is expected to live, and Nathan was arrested in 15 minutes. This story is no comparison, it's just sad.

  • I have one Seagate drive. It's a 500 GB that came in my 2006 Dell Dimension E510 running XP Media Center. When that died in 2011, I put it in my custom build. It ran until probably 2014, when suddenly I was having issues booting and I got a fresh WD 1 TB. Put it in a box, and kept it for some reason. Fast forward to 2022, I got another Dell E510 with only an 80 GB. Dusted off the old 500 GB and popped it in. Back with XP Media Center. The cycle is complete. That drive is still noisy as fuck.

  • I want to see the psp folder!

  • Oh, yeah we do. I love ice water even while shoveling snow.

  • Alien Resurrection. 3 was the David Fincher one on the prison planet.

  • PIVOT.

  • My grandpa got a pool table in his basement in a very similar stair condition. To this day, I have no idea how beyond the fact that he had a come along tied to a 4x4 across the basement door. We just left it down there when we sold the house.

  • That's the only problem? What about how the blinds are outside of the tub, directing all the water directly to the floor?

  • Oh yeah, I don't think he's going to be doing that either. I think this is plain old uninstalling pre-installed HP stuff and hoping for the best kind of situation.

Mint is definitely at LEAST as easy to install as Windows, if not easier. As long as all the stuff on his laptop is supported out of the box. I love my Mint install, but last month I spent 40 minutes on github trying to find the right release of the open driver to work with my revision of network adapter, and the amount of work in the terminal was undoubtedly more than somebody asking this question would be comfortable with.

  • Yeah, I'd say that is too complex as well. I kinda think his best bet is uninstalling whatever HP crap he can, and just hope for the best.

  • I'm concerned about OP's ability to upgrade a drive based on the nature of the question. I'd like to also throw in some help with cloning a drive.
