  • Because he can't see past correlation to causation.

... Not that any sane person actually expected better, of course.

But the fact he's caving on auto manufacturing tariffs means he is correctable. A good, if meager signal. Although, I can't imagine how many showers I'd need to feel ok about whatever I had to say to or do to sway him.

On second thought, fuck those corpos too. They're not doing it for the right reasons either. If it happens to protect a few jobs in the short term, then good, I suppose. But I don't for a second expect there won't also be layoffs to further pad executive bonuses in the name of "shareholder value".

  • Here's what I sent my rep:

    Congressman Panetta,

As a constituent, I find the so-called "Take it Down" act terrifying especially in light of the President's casual mention of personal use during his address to the joint meeting.

I have not seen any indication on your position as yet, but please actively campaign against it, and pressure our close neighbors Ro Khanna and Jim Costa, who are on the record supporting it to withdraw their support.

The only use this bill has for the authors is to limit freedom of speech and press.

  • How about: there's no difference between actually free will and an infinite universe of infinite variables affecting your programming, resulting in a belief that you have free will. Heck, a couple million variables is more than plenty to confuddle these primate brains.

  • Exactly, hence the last sentence of my comment.

Evolution is cruel, and if that particular strain of stupid results in fewer successful offspring, maybe we're better off as a species.

I definitely read too much science fiction and think about this shit on a grand scale constantly, so sometimes I have to be reminded about being fucking human. And apparently these dumbass parents might need to be too.

  • I know the article says this is just something going around on social media, but fuck me, sometimes I go to a dark place and think maybe measles should win. Maybe evolution needs to cull this dipshittery.

Then I think of the kids who don't have a choice. Why are people so fucking dumb?

  • So what I'm hearing is that peanuts and vitamins are gonna be cheaper?

And all it costs is several thousand lives in countries most Americans couldn't pick out on a map, and a bunch of anxiety for peanut farmers.

What a great deal. Nobody could have made a better, more Christ-like deal.

  • To a significant extent, they do, contracting for construction of generation and transmission (very often renewable), at least at the largest scale.

But, it's (mostly) all on the grid.

With demand like that, it's not like there isn't significant negotiation with the local power company, especially because they're frequently built a significant distance from existing large power infrastructure.

Heck, all the big 3 cloud providers signed deals for nuclear generation in the last few months. https://spectrum.ieee.org/nuclear-powered-data-center

Here's just one more article about these sorts of investments: https://www.canarymedia.com/articles/clean-energy/google-has-a-20b-plan-to-build-data-centers-and-clean-power-together
