Felons are already prohibited from firearm posession... and have been for quite some time. Violent offenders are regularly released back into the streets. Not sure what your point is.

How are you trying to prevent one? By attempting to negotiate with the people pushing for one, when they have proven time and time again that they only want their way or the highway?

The argument of it works everywhere its been tried is nonsensical for the states. We have more guns in circulation than other of the countries you look to. Criminals will continue to obtain guns through illegal means so long as there are guns in circulation. The oasis you dream of can only truly be met by full confiscation of all firearms in the states.

Stop using generalizations. There are absolutely people that support all weapon bans. If you want to debate, use more accurate language.

Which is why when you pull back the layers, most efforts to curb gun ownership ultimately leads to full confiscation and bans. Restrictions won't do what they want.

I'm more concerned about moving the moderate needle of democrats like biden who threatened striking railworkers with prison. Who has carrot on a sticked legal weed since before he was elected and continued to move the goal post ever since. Moving trumps needle isn't going to happen. There are more independents that would align with dems if they actually supported liberal policies than libertarians that would ever align with a republican. You're going to have to come to grips with the fact that IF trump or any other authoritarian dickhead gets control again and actually destroys our democracy that you and anyone else that wants to fix it will have to fight to do so. The other side is already ready to fight to take away your rights.

My reddit and lemmy history strongly disagrees with you. Any criticism of dems is met with downvotes. Ill also argue that excusing shitty behavior from those on the left because "they're not as bad as republicans" is lesser of two evils bullshit that has enabled us to continue slipping further and further in the wrong direction, as a whole.

I've never understood why you're average dem is so anti gun. They even continue to push harder on weapon bans during trumps rise. We've been careening towards authoritarianism and they're just like "let's disarm ourselves removing our last ditch effort chance to defend ourselves". Makes no sense
