  • There was one just this weekend. A guy with a rifle popped up at a Utah No Kings rally. Two people who were on hand to protect the protesters stopped what would have almost certainly been a mass casualty event.

Sadly, an innocent bystander was killed by the defenders. And that is the real issue. Guns are extremely dangerous even when used properly. Even good guys with a gun are not perfect and innocent people are often injured or killed on accident. We have too many guns in this country and not enough regulation and enforcement.

  • “I know enough to know this is not right at all,” Mr. Gavidia said in an interview. “Latinos in general are getting attacked. We’re all getting attacked.”

Yeah, part of the plan. There was absolutely no way Trump could deport as many people as he said he was going to in his campaign, unless he was going to deport legal immigrants too.

  • Technically the commandment is, "Thou shalt not murder" and I've heard some use that as an out. If the commandment was "Thou shalt not kill", then one would violate it if one were in the military or police and had to kill someone, or even if one had to kill someone in self defense. They see it as a rule against committing unjustified homicide. If the person deserves to die, then it's okay to kill them.

Yeah, convoluted logic, but we're talking about people who believe an invisible sky wizard is watching them all the time and will consign them to eternal torture if they whack off.

  • Carlson said Boelter is a Christian who strongly opposes abortion...

...but apparently strongly supports murdering anyone who opposes his views.

The gunman shot John Hoffman nine times, and Yvette Hoffman eight times, according to a statement from Yvette.

The Hoffmans’ nephew, Mat Ollig, wrote on Facebook that Yvette used her body to shield her daughter. John Hoffman is “enduring many surgeries right now and is closer every hour to being out of the woods,” Yvette Hoffman said in a statement.

Shielded her daughter with her own body, getting shot eight times on Saturday morning, and released a statement on Sunday night. What an amazing person.

  • There's something in many US States called the felony murder rule. Utah is such a state. Essentially, if a person commits a serious crime (a felony) and someone else dies as a result of that crime, that person can be charged with murder even though they might not have been directly responsible for the death.

In this case, a man with a rifle was threatening the lives of peaceful protesters. That is a felony. The people present to protect the protesters fired on him to keep him from killing other people. Sadly, an innocent bystander was killed. Had the rifleman not committed the felony in the first place, the bystander would be alive today. Thus the guy with the rifle is being held responsible for that death.

  • It isn’t bribary.

Did you read the law I posted and linked? They don't have to follow through. Anyone who even offers money or anything else of value to someone to get them to vote or not vote at all is in violation of this law. Whether they follow through on it or not. Just making the offer is a crime. Elon offered money to people to vote. Period. He broke this statute.

  • The article has been updated on this matter. They are now reporting that the officers encountered the suspect at Sen. Hortman's home when they arrived and exchanged gunfire.

After Hoffman was shot, officers were heading to pro-actively check on Hortman when they encountered the suspect at Hortman's Brooklyn Park home around 3:35 a.m., Evans said.

The officers found a person who was dressed as a police officer -- wearing a vest and a badge, and with a Taser and other equipment -- at the door, coming out of Hortman's house, police said.

The suspect fired at the officers; gunfire was exchanged and the suspect was able to escape and flee on foot, authorities said.

The suspect's vehicle -- which looked like a police vehicle, including police lights -- was in Hortman's driveway, authorities said.

As for how he got the gear and vehicle, the suspect and his wife run Praetorian Guard Services which advertises itself as a provider of armed security. They have weapons, body armor, tasers, and use Ford Explorer SUVs just like the local police do.
