  • Are there any car infotainment systems that aren't complete shit?

I bought a Subaru over 10 years ago and I didn't give the infotainment part enough scrutiny when checking it out. I love the way the car drives, but anything dealing with the radio just pisses me off. I don't even have Starlink.

  • The way I did it was by using it a lot. If you see someone post something you find interesting, follow that person, interact with their posts, and if you see a post one of your friends will find interesting, send it to them. Another great thing about most (all?) Fediverse apps is that you don't need an account to view a post. I still have friends who send me Twitter links and I have to let them know that I can't view it because I don't have the app or an account, but I still send them Mastodon, Lemmy, Loops and Pixelfed links. I'm not pressuring people into joining, but I'm showing them how I'm using it and let them make their own decision.

  • Setup an account and start using it. Learn the ins and outs of it, then offer to teach your friends and family who might be interested. Someone has to be the first, then that person has to find their 'first follower'. It isn't easy, but with persistence it will pay off

  • The /s at the end means he was being sarcastic.

Right, which leads me to believe that they are implying that people are talking about the Palestine / Israel situation on other platforms.

I don't go on FB often, but when I do I never see anything on there about Israel. I never go on Twitter, but from what I've heard any mention of genocide is met with accusations of antisemitism and the conversation is shut down.

  • I know this happens in US prisons all the time

Except this is nothing like what happens to people in the US prison system. In the US you get to have a trial. You generally have options for visitors and communication with loved ones. You are also given a sentence, so you know how much time you have left.

This man had none of that. If he wasn't a terrorist before he was taken, I would be shocked if he isn't one now.

  • Lots of great suggestions in the comments, but one I didn't see that I've REALLY been enjoying is the Infinity Series by Jeremy Robinson. As a fan of Science Fiction I absolutely love this series because each book is a sub-genre of SF. I'm currently on the 8th book (out of 13) and when I started this series I told myself that I was only going to read the first book, and would then decide if I wanted to continue. Then when I finished it, I picked up the second book and said that I was just going to read a few chapters and see how I like it. Now when I finish one there's no question what I'm reading next.

This year I've also enjoyed Dungeon Crawler Carl... though I'd put it more in the Fantasy realm than SciFi... but Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon by Matt Dinniman is a nice SciFi book that has a lot of the same feel as DCC as far as world building goes, but does lack on the character development.

  • This is the truth. The pandemic really messed up my house because we stopped cleaning when people stopped coming over, and now it is so bad that we still don't have people coming over. Add to that having a kid who doesn't want to ever get rid of any of her old toys, and 2 parents trying hard to not let depression win... I don't think we'll ever have a clean house again.
