  • I usually see a lot of people downvoting posts in a language they don't speak, presumably because they don't care.

I would suggest those people to select their languages in their settings so that they don't see this kind of content.

  • Thanks for sharing, and happy to see two of the communities I'm posting to on Lemm.ee are mentioned there (!yurop@lemm.ee and !movies@lemm.ee )

The centralization on Lemmy.world can create performance issues. Reddthat has been having issues since LW upgraded to 19.3: https://grafana.lem.rocks/d/edf3gjrxxnocgd/federation-health?orgId=1&var-instance=lemmy.world&var-remote_instance=reddthat.com&var-remote_software=All&from=now-24h&to=now, while they have no issues with SJW: https://grafana.lem.rocks/d/edf3gjrxxnocgd/federation-health?orgId=1&var-instance=sh.itjust.works&var-remote_instance=reddthat.com&var-remote_software=All&from=now-24h&to=now

@ticoombs@reddthat.com, our admin, is trying to figure out a solution, but it might require important rework of the Lemmy codebase

I'm thinking about asking a few communities I mod on LW if they could consider moving to another instance to spread the load.

  • Thanks!

  • I feel you, didn't we all? That's a thought that was haunting me for a bit "if only I had gotten some BTC a bit earlier, and sold at the peak.."

But I think overall, those thoughts are more negative than anything. You can't do much about what happened in the past, you can only change the present.

  • Thank you for the link!

    You are welcome!

it all just adds up to mean that Beehaw and Lemmy’s goals still haven’t fully aligned in the last 6 months.

    Yes indeed

  • I use it from time to time, it's quite decent. I prefer the Lemmy UI, so I use it more, but I really could use Mbin much more if it was the opposite

  • no software out that is as mature as lemmy,

    Doesn't mbin have feature parity?

  • (which in my opinion is actually not true - I believe that Beehaws vision fits in very well with the direction Lemmy is going, especially with private communities being planned soon).

    Strong agree.

Hopefully there can be some renewed collaboration in the future.

  • Mbin has that. They released a new version 2 weeks ago I'll have a closer look soon, seems very promising

  • Hello,

Thank you for this post, a nice piece of positivity among the tensions from the last few days.

You are a great person, thank you for your work.

  • GDPR has an impact on day to day lives of people in Europe.

When I was looking for a flat, every real estate agency made me sign a GDPR acknowledgement. It bothers them, but they have to comply.

  • an EU bubble develops with instances with contracts between eachother to be GDPR compliant and they all only federate with eachother.

Wouldn't that be similar to what is happening with websites preventing access from the EU to avoid GDPR ?

  • Typical inertia I would say.

Some people commended but forgot about it. Some others didn't actually want to support. A few might be betting on other platforms rather than Lemmy.

    I'm not really that surprised.
